OEM Black chrome Exhaust tip vs. Regular chrome

Just ordered the matte black version from PureTacoma to go with my new Jones JT2525XL muffler:

Is this one a true OEM product as well? The details say "Manufactured by: Toyota Racing Development". Are there any logos on it?

I'm deciding between this one and the OEM black chrome version.

 

Doesn't matter, it will be covered in dirt after a couple kilometers lol

 

I’ll be honest, I put mine on and just forgot about it.

 

The Toyota OEM one is black chrome and has the T logo on it. The matte black ones, are a distributor package install by Gulf States Toyota (TX, LA, OK, AR) and is part of the blackout package. Not OEM, but distributor installed. Same with power locking tailgate and a few other items.
My dealer priced just the matte black tip and it was $99. Decided to wait, but it looks way nicer than the Toyota OEM one. Having a hard time find the same tip through aftermarket, have to measure. Good luck.

I wonder if those OEM ones would fit a 2nd gen

 

Do you have it and if you do how is it holding up ?

 

I have this one. It’s eh... it has an internal screen that keeps it from sliding all the way down. The bolts to secure it also stick out a bit. Color wise it is great and hasn’t flaked or gotten scratched up or anything.

 

I love it, really finished off my exhaust. I have a muffler cutting tool, I had to cut off the slightly enlarged end, but this was the perfect length installed.

 

I bought the regular chrome for mine off of ebay. Waiting for delivery. But, my tacoma is metallic gray. So I think regular chrome looks better on darker color trucks. Good luck.

 

Length isn’t the issue for me, it’s the bolts. Would be better with a single clamp like the OEM or welded. As is, it’s just meh.

 

Holding up perfectly. Looks great and unless your 1 foot away, you don’t realize it’s not factory.

 

You could have it welded easily. The bolts are a non-issue then.

 

An opinion on that exhaust tip was requested. IF I wanted it welded, then it would be a nonissue. For now it’s a place holder. You love it, I think it’s meh.

 

It does not have any markings at all, so I can't really tell who made it.

Just ordered the black chrome. Did you install yourself with a torque wrench? How tight did you go?

 

Yeah, its super simple to remove the chrome one and replace with the black one. No torque wrench is needed, you cant really overtighten it as the clamp has a little spacer in it.
