I bought the SE Toyota set off eBay for $135. It’s the same thing our dealers use and it’s super easy to install.

Way damn more than it should be. I sell cars, and our parent company owns the Toyota store that we share a parking lot with. I obviously bought my Taco there, and always get an employee discount on parts, service, etc. Even at my price it was about $300 for everything. The eBay one is the best route, even though some people still think it's too much.

The ones for 2nd Gen are not overlays but actual black badges.

Quicksand with hood protector, color matching decals on tailgate latch, mudflaps, glovebox, and tailgate hitch cover.
I had the same problem as others, in that the kits come with more overlays than I needed. I just need the TACOMA overlays for the sides, and the V6 overlay for the tailgate. I already have the blackout letters for the tailgate installed. I actually ordered and installed the blackout decals for less than $10, as I figured they were worth a try. And although they ARE an improvement, I do think the complete overlay kit is the way to go. By the way, I also have a quicksand model and even before I bought it, I KNEW I would be doing the blackout thing, as it just POPS with the quicksand color!

I can see why Toyota offers overlays as a dealer-installed option: it’s super easy to install, and reuses existing badges. But IMO they are not worth the $200 the dealers want to blackout your chrome letters.

My other issue with the OE overlays is that they black out the inside of letters A and the number 6. So from purely aesthetics, they don’t look right to me.

Its not even noticeable on my truck with MGM, but it shows more on your truck being white

Indeed. That’s the ones I bought too.

These are not overlays, though. You have to first remove the existing chrome badges and stick these on their place.

I used masking tape to mark where the chrome badges were before removing them. Then stuck the black ones right where the masking tape was. This way there’s no need to measure, align and guess.

I removed the chrome badges using a fishing line, sliding it between the badge and the door. Once the badge comes off, the adhesive residue comes off relatively easily. The whole thing took 20 minutes.

$128 from the dealer which was roughly about the same as they were being sold from the vendor before becoming a Toyota exclusive. I do concur with the middle of the A not being cut out a cheap way to go. I thought about taking a razor blade to it and doing it myself but the cost of the overlay's made me think twice. If they were a $25 part I would have at least tried to cut them out. It looks worse close up

Well decided to Plastidip my V6 and Tacoma badges. 7 coats later and I think they turned out great. We'll see how they hold up.
