So I won $300 of Toyota accessories when I bought my truck and one of the things I got was the door edge strip protectors. How do I put these on? They seem tight, which is a good thing. Do I just tap them on with a rubber mallet?

I also picked out the spare tire lock. Anyone got one of these and how do you like it?

Yes a rubber mallet is how I did mine, just match up the shape and start from the bottom

IMO the spare lock is as valuble as the "stock" locking lugs. meaning NONE. The are very easy to bypass with no "special" tools.

I bought Gorilla brand locks for my wheels and I put a cable lock, Kryptonite brand I think, on the spare and over the frame brace. Ihave had the cable lock for years. It has previously been used to lock my generator to the fence during post hurricane power outages. If someone wants my spare bad enough to cut the cable lock off, more power to them.

Mine came with these when I bought it. They were the first thing to be removed. No glue or anything, purely pinched on. I removed them and had zero marks or scratches.

Mine are white if anyone wants a set!!! Haha

    Why did you remove them?

Problem with any Cable/padlocks these days is that anyone with a cheap, small, battery powered angle grinder with a Cutoff/Zip Disc in it, will zip through that cable in less than 10 seconds. Quite quietly too.

I put my spare tire on this and have the special lugs that I am sure if they really wanted it they could get it.

My stupid opinion: Unless you are buying the edge guards to protect your doors in your own garage, why? Do you ding other peoples doors commonly? If so, guards might not be the only thing to consider?

You do have a point, but sometimes parking is tight. I don't do it regularly, but I don't want to have any dinged edges either.

Just my opinion and as the recipient of major door dings on new cars / bikes, if parking is tight like in a parking garage, I have passengers hop out and leave enough room for me to cautiously get out. Leaving a mark or ding on someone else's stuff is just not our thing.

We will park far out, usually in end spots, and never take up more than one spot. Yet, we still have peeps parking over the lines or outright dinging us. Of course, this is around the crazy passive-aggressive Seattle area.

I'm not a fan of them, either. For whatever reason, the plastic strip jutting out from the clean body lines was bugging me. Plus, I hardly ever hit anything with the door, so they were of no use to me.

Mine aren't plastic, they are a light metal and very sturdy. I put em on as only 2 cars fit in my Driveway and the kids once in a while would open it on the wall.

I just wasn't a fan of the way they looked. They aren't obnoxious but I have that OCD crap with everything needing to be just so, and they just didn't fly. As in the pic, OCD kicked in, dealer wasn't allowed to touch the truck from taking it off delivery truck until I picked it up. Lol

Oh and I ended up replacing it with clear paint protection film on the door edges. I did the film on the hood, fenders, front bumper, headlights, mirrors, a pillars, and front of roof as well as th door cups. Did it all myself. Was a PITA.
