Try bumping up to 30 weight if you are using 20. Generally, vehicles begin consuming oil because of scoring along the cylinder walls. This is caused my carbon build-up and if the piston oil-ring begins to seize it will score the cylinder wall. I would personal flush the engine with a good cleaner and then switch to 5w-30 or 5w-40 based on what you are using now. You consumption is probably not based on oil filter choice, but in reality thin oil and allowing large particles to circulate is not a good thing.

Rep said that because a K&N isn't a very good air filter until it gets dirty. It's kind of a known issue for K&Ns, their oil filters don't have a very good track record ether. I rate them right there with FRAM hugging the bottom.

The cheap Fram, yes, the Fram Endurance is an excellent filter.

As an engineer I read this different than you do. OEM is 16th in filtration but #2 in hot flow and #1 in capacity.

Those numbers make me think that the smart engineers at Toyota analyzed what really matters to their engines and decided that flow and capacity are more important than absolute filtration abilities.

Like others said once the media gets full, the bypass opens and then there is no filtration of the oil. Perhaps Toyota engineers decided that longer lasting slightly worse filtration abilities were not detrimental to longevity, and it is more important to ensure that the bypass valve never opens and the oil is always filtered.

It did not use a lot of oil but would drop below the top dot on the dipstick between oil changes toward the end. The RAV4 was my only Toyota I approached 200K miles, so my experience with higher mileage Toyotas is limited to that one vehicle.

I change my air filters once a year in April whether they are needed or not because I’ve always done that and it’s a cheap purchase. As long as you change the oil filter every time your oil change I don’t think it matters what the brand is.

MMO soak will free up stuck piston rings. It is a common problem on Saturn cars, "Saturn piston soak" is all over the web.

Lucky. I change mine every 2 months. And it needs it. I forgot it to do it once, and filter went for 4 months. Took a full day and all night for the ice to melt on the condenser coils.

Another issue could be older seals. Do you have any oil seepage on the outside?
LiquiMoly Motor Oil Saver can be added to any oil, and it will restore the seals.

I solve that problem (frozen evaporator coil) in about 5 minutes by running the air on "on" without the cooling or heating on.

The bypass valve is going to open mostly due to cold flow rates / viscosity or pressure at WOT. If you are clogging your filter, something else is probably going on or your running it for extreme periods. Toyota does make higher end filters and there is some debate about the quality when they switched manufacturing from Japan to Thailand. Engine longevity is by far mostly based on the quality of the internal parts and oil change intervals, not as much on filtration ratings, but I would still prefer to run a filter that catches more particulates.

My shop recommends NAPA Gold for those not wanting Toyota OEM filters.
They also say to shun FRAM.

Seems like peak filtration isn't the main concern for these toyota engineers. Maybe they need to watch more youtube videos

Where can you get a Toyota filter for six bucks? Just bought one last week from Advance Auto for about 15 bucks

    $48.95 for a case of 10:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007QVVV7M
    Sold by Conicelli Toyota.
    Under $5.50, with tax.
I have ordered 2 cases from them. All filters were genuine OEM Toyota.
Wife's RAV4 and Taco take the same filter, so I always keep some in the garage.
