I just dropped off a set of '18 Pro shocks at a local rebuilder to freshen up for my '22. Guy called to say he does a number of Raptors and of course all the usual smaller powersport stuff, but has never seen a valve setup like these shocks have. Said he can drill the shocks out and install a more conventional Schrader valve, or he can get the proper tool from Fox; but that would be almost $400 (and he has no idea what lead times would be on it).

I did a little digging around, and it looks like at least a couple non-factory rebuilders take the Schrader route; is there any downside to this, other than a little valve stem sticking out in a not entirely shielded area up front?

No, the manufacturer puts a “tamper proof” end cap on the shocks so the end user doesn’t see a schrader and add a bunch of shop air to “tune” their shocks.

It’s very common to revert back to a standard schrader style.

Yep, saw that one, was the thread that gave me hope that maybe it's nothing to worry about..but I thought I'd ask since it's an irreversible sort of thing and haven't seen any mention of it before.

OK, thanks for confirming. I was also speculating that since it's an OEM application they want to make it as user unfriendly as possible to service, however that makes even more sense.

But on that note, aren't these things pressurized in to the hundreds of PSI? Wouldn't they just blow the charge up the air chuck and back to the air tank?

My rebuilder only did the shock portion, bushings and such are still original. Lower bushings look OK, but the front upper insulator/bushings have giant cracks and I am not sure about what condition things are in hiding under the metal hat. I'm poking around dealer parts sites but don't come up with many components that show Pro compatibility...so I am starting to wonder if these things are unique to the Fox setup and have to be sourced from them?
