A question for you Toyota part number gurus. I am shipping headlights and just want to know the differences in the 04173 and the 04210. I think they are darker than the ones I have. I currently have the bright chrome 04200. Thanks!

Here's a quote from the ultimate headlight upgrade thread.

    OEM 2005-2011 smoked headlights:
These are like the Pro lights, but came on select Sport models. These are available loaded with bulbs, and unloaded w/o bulbs, saving $60 off the set . These part numbers are for the unloaded housings. These are the updated TSB version of the lights that do not have the melting DRL issue.
    Right #81130-04173
    Left #81170-04173

I just asked my local dealer which part numbers belong to the updated headlight assemblies (without bulbs); the ones you list above, or the ones I copied from the Toyota warranty extension PDF (POL 14-03). Based on my TRD Sport's VIN, my parts dept. contact person tells me:

Part #'s 81110-04173 and 81150-04173 are the original part numbers.
The updated part #'s are 81110-04210 and 81150-04210.

Posting to let people know that, at best, there is some confusion as to the correct part numbers. Perhaps my local dealer is correct. Perhaps Muddinfun is correct.

I think I'll go with my dealer and the Toyota warranty extension document (the -4210 part numbers). At least if the parts are wrong, it's their error.

Interesting. I just quoted what @crashnburn80 posted in his ultimate headlight thread. The headlights are sold with or without bulbs. Let us know how it all plays out.

Yes, I've read his posts. When I search all of these part numbers, they look legit. It's odd that it's so difficult to pin it down to one set of part numbers.

I've done a bunch of searching since seeing this and find the data compelling. I will update the headlight thread accordingly. I wish it was easier to distinguish between all Toyota's part numbers for smoked vs chrome vs pre-TSB vs Post TSB vs loaded vs unloaded and all the combinations there of.

It seems odd that they would even still sell the preTSB headlights.
