81DDFEAB-F8BA-49CF-A9EC-2AD7886FA95F.jpg Been reading a lot about the OEM 2nd gen hood/bug deflector and how it chips the paint at the mounts. Is that everyone’s experience with it? I put the 3mm tape on correctly and I’m hoping that suffices. I really like the look and I like how this says “Toyota” on the side, I just like to have OEM. Have any of you had a negative experience with it?

I went with AVS cuz I read a lot of paint chip issues with the oem as well. OEM would've been my preferred choice though.

    Do they actually deflect bugs?

To a certain extent. When my 12' didn't have one, the windshield was noticeably more splattered than my 15' that had one. It helps a little....

I had one on my 2015, but it used to vibrate in any amount of wind, so I removed it after a couple years. The only slight paint damage was from the outer mounts that stick to the top of the hood. It looked like dirt slowly worked it’s way under the edges of the adhesive and rubbed the clear coat off. This could have just been from the vibration though. All the other mounting points had no damage at all.

I had one on my 08 for a while, but it mounted to the underside of the hood using holes that were already there. I took if off after a few months because it didn't provide any real difference for me and IMO did not add to the look of the truck.

That’s how my 15 was mounted too. As long as the little clear plastic adhesive strips are put under the mounting brackets to protect the paint, there should be no damage.

Heard that OEM can rub the paint. Went with AVS and all good here.

It does deflect some of the bugs from the windshield. What I like about the deflector is that it deflects pebbles and other flying crud from the hood. I have a deflector on my 2010 and no paint chips. I don’t have one on my 2008 and paint chips galore
