OEM Leafspring Q

I noticed off of toyota's website that the leaf springs for the prerunner four door cab are a different part number than the ones for a standard cab 4x4 (both 3 leaf). what is the difference, are they dimensionally the same?

i set out my new to me leafs up against the stock ones on my standard cab and they appear to be the same length etc.. i hope i didn't make a buyers error and assume toyota used the same leaf on all of the 4x4/prerunner trucks...

 

what are your "new to me" leafs you're comparing to the stock springs ?

 

my standard 3 leaf springs on my 05 standard cab 4x4 have negative arch, i just purchased some 3 leaf springs from an 09(i believe) prerunner double cab with 1800 miles on them. laying them on the ground under the truck they appear to line up with the other holes for the springs, but its hard to tell.

 

You could lift the back of your truck just enough to take most the weight off the springs & measure from eyelett to eyelett & match that with what you have.

2nd gen prerunners/4x's are roughly 53"

 

thats a good idea. i wasnt sure why the springs part numbers where different, i just assumed all the leafs (with the exception of the 2wd and tsb springs) were the same regardless of cab size...however we all know what assuming does...

 

bumping this back up. while measuring my springs i noticed this...


sooo i really need to replace these soon.
my springs are so flat compared to the newer ones, its difficult to measure. it was kind of tight in there too with all of the hardware etc.. in the way. it looks like the double cab's springs are maybe an inch shorter? i measured the overload leaf and it looks like the one on my truck is about 31.25 inches, and the newer one from teh double cab is about 30.25. i have a feeling this is going to screw me pretty good.

i read in the TSB that there is only one part number for the TSB springs, so i assumed that all the springs were the same (dimension wise) regardless of the truck.

i'm not sure what to do now...

indeed, the middle one broke.

 

i'm really trying to stay away from lifting my truck, but it almost seems like its the cheaper way to get this fixed with better quality parts than the oem toyota crap...especially since it looks like the ones from the double cab will not fit my regular cab.

 

Providing that the main leafs are good, I'd remove all except the main & throw 2 chevy springs on it & enjoy the rest of your ownership with truck with much better ride, etc...

 

i've been following your thread on doing this. the only problem is i don't have the resources to do it myself in my driveway. with as rusty as everything is in the picture, i have a feeling it would be a losing battle on my end doing this in my driveway.

and now that my curiosity is peaked, dont the chevy leafs have to be trimmed etc..? and what leafs are we talkin about, full size, s10? 1/2 ton?

HA! , no worries.. I know, it's turned into a novel but in amongst the nonsense theres some pretty good info, & yeah ya gotta trim them , the S-10 springs that I speak of are off the rarely seen 1 ton S-10 flatbed, factory SUA, but for non SUA (like most of us) Chevy 1/2 ton trucks really fit the bill, hit me up before you drop any $$$$ if you ever decide to do it....

 

i'm bumping this thread up and adding the info i just posted in another thread. more views = more ideas i hope.

i measured my double cab springs and my standard cab springs that are on the truck with something other than a straight tape measure this time.

my standard cab 6 lug:
the overload leaf measures about 31.5 inches roughly
the 2nd leaf measures 48.5 inches roughly
and the main leaf measures 54 inches

the double cab 6 lug
the over load leaf is 30 inches roughly
the 2nd leaf is 47 inches roughly
and the main leaf is 54 inches

thoughts as to why the double cab springs 2nd leaf and over load leaf are shorter? i really dont want to throw these on the truck to find out that now the a$$ end will sit lower than the front or something. does shorter leaves = less payload? surely the double cab should need to be beefier than my standard cab leaves.

 

We have Factory Style Replacement Packs in R&D. But it will probably be about a month or so before the first sets are ready to ship. Something to keep in mind though.
