    Hi All

I got a couple of quotes today to fit the Toyota Tacoma 2” Lift Kit which incs parts + new grill etc to new 2022 TRD. One based estimate on ~3-4hrs labor and the other ~11hrs labor. The latter was a Toyota Dealership the former a shop that specializes in truck lifts.

    Any advice welcome?

    regards

I did mine by myself in my garage with no lift in about 5 hours. I’m not a mechanic. That’s all I can contribute.

    11 hours sounds insane

11 hours is a ripoff. I don't know if the OEM lift kit needs to be installed by a dealer to maintain whatever fake warranty implication they have over an aftermarket lift kit so you might be screwed anyways. But I had an Icon Stage 8 lift kit (a substantially more exhaustive lift kit) done with 6 hours labor at a specialist shop.

It’s a brand new vehicle and since this is the Toyota OEM kit I am assuming it would not void anything. But it’s a good point and I will check. I thought 11 hours was insane but wanted to check it was not me that was nuts.

I had the understanding that the Toyota TRD lift kit had to be installed by a Toyota dealer. I don’t think you can just order it yourself. I could be wrong as I never looked into it seriously. Are you sure the independent shop was quoting you a price for a TRD lift kit installation?

I installed mine today and it took 4 hours. Not hard to install on your garage if you have jack stands and 2 jacks. (I do own a Strut tamer by OTC), might be longer with the conventional compressors. I went with the unbolting the sway bar method instead of unbolting the LCAs.

Even an aftermarket kit doesn’t void anything — it just means that if there’s an issue with the suspension it won’t be covered under warranty. The installer/aftermarket vendor usually warranty it so it’s moot.

I too was under the impression the OEM lift kit had to be installed by a dealer to maintain its warranty.

Check some other dealerships , mine charged for 4 hours labor. The Toyota press release says 4 to 5 hours labor. I checked around with several got the lowest price then emailed the service manager at my dealership , he gladly matched that price as he knew it would mean service visits in the future. My dealership finished in 3.5 hours and that was with the alignment. I had some tell me it would take 5, 8, 10 hours! Lol, Not at all appointment was at 8 and I left at 1130. Just the mild lift and the grille makes a huge difference in the looks of the vehicle. I put 245 75 16 Falkens on also. One more thing as I checked around some of the parts departments would reduce the 1450 kit price for me as that is MSRP. It's like a car deal they are all over the place with the prices. Good luck!

Yep, good call on the press release. I'd quote that back at them and see what they say -- if they won't budge, check other dealers.
