    Hey y’all.
Recently acquired a OEM front recovery hook. I took some advice from the forum on what hardware I needed and I’m concerned the hardware is too short. See below. I count 5-6 threads exposed that would attach to frame, but given the forces involved it just looks wrong.

    Hardware is: 17mm, m 12x1.25, flange bolt, Steel Class 10.9 Zinc x 40mm

    TIA

I believe the correct bolts are 60mm long, so about 2-3/8” long. Measure from the underside of the head, not the top.

That seems more in the ball park. 40mm seems appropriate for the standard stock loop maybe. The OEM recovery hook is thicker so I must’ve misunderstood someone else’s previous reply to a separate thread.
Good thing I can hoard this hardware indefinitely until I need it for some random thing :p

Yes, too short. A good rule of thumb for thread engagement is 1.5 X diameter.

Would not be running that hook.

Look up in parts catalog. Or measure.

Thank you for posting. Is that a 12mm bolt that uses a 17mm socket?

17mm socket yes, m12 refers to 12mm thread diameter

Those bolts go up into some nuts tack welded onto the inside of the x-member. Use a bent wire to fish up inside the open hole and find the back of the nut. Your chosen screws should stick out of the hook casting for that distance so you've got all of the engagement possible.
