I dont remember what brand it was, but there is a company that makes cross bars that attach to the OEM cross bars when they are stowed. The bars are much stronger than the OEM ones, but it looks goofy as hell having cross bars attached to stowed cross bars.

And some people like pickles. I get that you’re poking fun at my earlier statement (if you bothered to read it, who has the time, am I rite?).

I watched some videos of the oem rack install, and boy do the crossbeams look identical to them ones on the outback. Same latch at the free end of the crossbars. The Subaru ones are aluminum under the black coating, mine are all scratched up by gunwales. Based on my experience with the Subaru ones, they’d be perfectly fine for light and medium loads. For folks commenting that their crossbars rattle, it’s a common complaint on the subbie ones, you can tighten up the catch mechanism by fabricating a thin rubber washer to slip over the catch. It’s cut out of bicycle tube rubber.

Not sure what you mean? I found this thread since I was looking for similar info to the OP. Saw a bunch of people commenting that the OEM rack is ugly. I’d think if the OP is asking for pros and cons of it, they probably weren’t immediately turned off by its appearance, and maybe actually liked it. So prob they were looking for input on its functionality/durability.
