I think the radio in all 2009 Tacoma's are screw up. My question is: if I buy a radio on ebay will I need to get a theft lock code from the dealer if I change it out myself, and how hard is it to get a theft lock code from the dealer if so ?

If you are not happy with the oem radio, why not put an aftermarket radio in?

My '09 radio went south a few months ago and I put a single din Pioneer in. Works great. I sacrificed the steering wheel controls, but the radio is easy to reach, so no loss there. Actually gained a few benefits--the only one I use is the usb input.

I guess I wasn't sure of the trim fitting well and the convenience of the plug and play aspect.

Can I just buy one at Walmart and install it myself?

Installation is easy. If you go with a single din, you will need a different piece for the dash. Amazon has one for a few bucks. If you need the steering wheel controls, it gets a bit more complicated with a non-oem unit.
