    Are you guys suggesting to either use a punch or a spade to drill the hole on the weatherstrip?

    I cut the metal spine out then used a good spade bit at slow speed with no issues.

    Im assuming using a regular drill? I dont know if I trust myself enough to do it without damaging it.

    Then try a punch lol. It's not really as scary as it sounds, you just need to use the proper speed on the drill. I'd bet good money most people with issues try to zip right through it. A good sharp bit is also important.

    My oem rack sucked, so I got a front runner. To seal i filled the bolt holes with flex shot and it's never leaked

    That part I forget. I just watched the size f the spade to the size of the stand offs on the rack.
    Seriously though if you are concerned, go the punch route. I'm sure it's less stressful.
