I put a Yakima basket (60lbs) on my oem roof rack and after a month the oem rack was falling apart. Constant rattles and shaking
Have had 2 aluminum racks, both were much higher quality

What yak cradles are you using there? Are they easy/quick to put on and take off? I have Thule J Hooks, but they are a pain to put on and take off.

I also use the OEM racks for a kayak which weighs 80lbs. No issues.

Not sure what a "mummy" case is but I'm assuming it's a roof top cargo box. If you go with the OEM rack, make sure you do your due diligence to make sure your cargo box will fit on it. The OEM roof rack utilizes fixed location crossbars - meaning they are a fixed distance apart. If your cargo box has mounts which are that same distance apart, then you're good to go. I wasn't so lucky. I have an older Thule cargo box and just assumed it'd fit my OEM rack but it wasn't even close. I was in a pinch so I drilled some holes and used u-bolts to mount it.

I ditched the OEM rack shortly after that because of this fitment issue. I found a Prinsu for cheap and am now using that instead. It's OK, and has better fitment with my cargo box but still not perfect. And, like some others, I don't exactly think it's a good looking solution (possibly because around here everyone and their mom has a Prinsu on their vehicle). I can also see why the OEM rack isn't rated for much weight. It's definitely less stout than the Prinsu et al.

I can't speak for the aftermarket OE knock off's for the Tacoma but I bought a knock off for my wife's CR-V and it was garbage and I returned it immediately. After removing my OEM Tacoma rack, seeing how it was constructed...etc I for sure wouldn't trust a knock off, the OEM one already doesn't seem to be the most sturdy thing in the world.

For the fitment issue on the OE Roof Rack, where the antenna fin was moved forward thus hitting the bars, I believe that only affected certain 2020 models. Specifically the first half of the model year.

I heard that was an issue with certain years, I wasn’t positive which. Thanks for the verification.

I agree with you, I want to like the look and design of the Prinsu because it seems like a great company and quality product, but I think it's almost too sleek. We run a Thule on a 4runner and love it, I'm wondering how oem parallel bars with Thule cross bars to mount your cargo box would work. Maybe overkill since the oem configures to cross bars as I understand them to work.

I have a Feb 2020 build. I think a guy on here posted a vid of the rear crossbar hitting the fin on his 2020. Haven't bought the OEM rack due to that issue. Thus, I cannot confirm it is an issue with mine specifically..

Reviving this thread for a personal question. I just got a UPS delivery of a "Toyota Tacoma 2005 - 2019 Double Cab OEM Factory Roof Rack Set PT2783-5140" that I bought on eBay. Problem is there is not a single emblem or even the word "Toyota" or the typical L/R indicators that OEM products come with. However, I don't have any photographic evidence by way of the legit product. If anyone can verify that the actual product has an identifier to mark it as OEM or even provide pictures, I would much appreciate it. I want to come armed with evidence to demand the seller pay return shipping.

Seller was asking 200, but I was offered a deal to buy at $185.

    Thanks,
    Randy

Ive got a clone set from ants auto coming, I will update with quality.
    $150 shipped.

Only got it because I decided to remove my sherpa grand teton. This route is literally cheaper than replacing with oem roof drip molding, :D

I would go with a hitch cargo basket over the OEM rack...

If OP has a cap, maybe the rack can go on there...

This is my solution. I'm also thinking about a cargo box btw....

OEM for looks and easy set up and install. Looks great and the only downfall is the amount of weight it can handle. Love mine for looks only, never put anything on the racks except a protective coating to keep it from fading over the years.

If you’re just taking a few bags, why not throw them in the backseat? Or if you have other people or things in there, how about the bed of the truck? You can get a cheap soft cover for less than $250 and not worry about your roof leaking later down the road.
I get that you didn’t ask for other suggestions, but just wanted to mention it

OP's post is over a year old; I'm sure he's good by now. Anyone have any confirmation on the markings?

    Hi there.

Did you find out about the OEM marking... I am about to purchase a roof rack in FB marketplace, but I would like to know how to find out if it is original.
