I'm think about getting the oem roof rack for my truck. I will be using it to mainly carry my snowboards during the winter. i know the oem rack has the crossbars that can be folded when not in use.

My question is can the rack be used with the cross bars in the stored position?

I have some yakima mounts and cross bars that i usd on my previous suv. The mounts are made to grab onto the factory racks. I also want to be able to do this so i can adjust how close i can mount my snowboard rack together. I like to have my snowboard racks as close to my bindings as possible for security reasons.

im pretty sure that you can put some aftermarket cross bars on the OEM rack. it certainly looks like it anyway

I beleive it might be a tight fit if you try to fit mounts while the OEM roof rack is in the storage position. Lets see if someone with experience with the yakima mounts chimes in.

when the crossbars are in the stored position, are they secure? do they somehow lock into place?
