Can the OEM roof rack be adjusted? the bars look pretty far apart online.

I have a basket that Id like to use but if I cant adjust those 2 rails then Im gonna have to go with something else.

thanks probably gonna have to go with something different then. Not sure if to get a new basket, or go for a prinsu or something.

No, They are where they are. No back and forth adjustment.

Using the OEM for a basket would be awful as well as they don’t hold up much. I can feel how fragile that thing is. You’re better off going with a Yakima setup or investing some dough into a prinsu.

The OEM rails pivot between two setups. Parallel to the length of the vehicle and perpendicular.

It’s easy to change them over between setups, they are not adjustable in how far apart the bars are however.

I have a Thule basket on top of my truck with the OEM rails swing out to he perpendicular across the top of the cab (door to door, not front to back).

This is the same issue I had with trying to use a Thule rooftop cargo box with the OEM rack. The crossbars are spaced to far apart. I am currently looking for options that use the in channel attachment points.

I like the prinsu but I need something a little more removable . The prinsu looks great but I cant remove it like I can with a basket.

I was thinking of strapping my 60lb Cobra Tandom kayak on the oem racks.
Does everyone think that’s safe? Tie down in front and rear.

You should be good with the front and rear tied down. I have my two SUPs secured to the OEM rack for local trips but for anything highway I use my Thule Xsporter.

OEM is good for about 120lbs, you should be good lashing the kayak to that AND front and rear. If it gets loose like a sail it could yank the rack out at highway speeds.

Maybe I’ll save up and buy a Thule
If there’s a chance I’d loose the kayak she will not allow.

I have since put this on our trailer and crafted a toprack from extruded aluminum. If I went with 2” for the sidewalls instead the 3” extrusion it might look good on the cab. Was a fun project and has the channels to run wiring through the extrusion.
