My canoe weighs about 55 lbs. I put two straps acoss the body at the crossbar points and do a front and back strap as well. I have no problems using the OEM racks. The canoe does not bottom out on the roof, and the cross bars do not seem bent out of shape. I would not put a very heavy load on the racks (believe they are rated at 100lbs), but for a canoe they are fine.

Sunday mornings are great for doing research on the internet. I have been looking at racks for my 2012 Toyota Tacoma all morning and this is what I found.

I want a soft top, sent an e-mail to Softopper to find out if their optional rack that goes over the bed cover works with Yakima accessories as I have four kayaks, at about 65lbs each, that all fit very nicely with Yakima's kayak stacker. Weight is the issue for me. Glad to see OEM won't handle it, thanks for the input!

Yakima has two different cab rack systems that are rated for 165 lbs, I would be pushing it, but could handle two of my boats easily. Why this is important for me, I too like the look of the cab racks vs. the bulky look of Softoppers bed rack system that is rated for 250lbs.

    Beauty vs. functionality......hmmm......Input?

I like the looks of the OEM rack mostly. Stored there isn't any noticeable wind noise but open yes. I don't really foresee me actually needing it other than the rare instance needed for a ladder or something. I mainly use it as a grab handle for washing the top of the truck.

I love mine! I like how it looks and the design. I use it to haul my Kayaks (2 Dagger Axis 10.5 around 45lbs each) with these. I have no issue with them moving around at all on the rack at highway speeds.

One note of warning though. The back bar somewhat blocks the XM antenna and it loses reception a little more often then when the bars are stowed. Only happens during this time of year and when you are going down a tree lined road (or if the kayaks are on top you can forget it lol). On the freeway or open road there is no issue.

As far as wind noise goes... couldn't tell you because my tires howl so much lol.

I ordered mine on eBay and paid 250 shipped. I love the lookof it but regret buying it because the cross bars aren't adjustable so I can'tmount my Yakima Load Warrior basket on it. I guess I have to buy some Yakimacross bars to mount to the factory ones... Do any of you have suggestions on what I can do?

Question for everyone, I am currently using the Yakima mega warrior with the yakima rack and crossbars, I am not overjoyed with the yakima rack and Q Clips, but I really like the mega warrior, if I put a OEM roof rack on will the mega warrior work if I put the 22 inch extension in. I have seen due to the crossbar spread the mega warrior won't fit the OEM rack. Any helps appreciated.

What's involved in installing OEM bars? Is there any drilling, etc...?

OEM the holes are already there. You remove the rubber strips, remove the weather seals from holes, and break a track piece, then install the rack. I'm sure you could google the part # and find an install PDF from toyota

I'm in the exact same boat as you, I have a Load Warrior Basket that I want to mount to the roof rack, so I have to look into extra cross bars that I can attach to the factory ones in the stowed position.

Willrunner05, if you used the extension piece on the Loadwarrior would you need the additional crossbars? I think the OEM rack looks cleaner in my opinion. I am trying to not use any additional crossbars.
