quick question for all you that have added the OEM backup camera to your 05-08...(im doing the install on my 05)

what line did you tap into for the power to the camera? schematics i received say its a 6v line? i was thinking of tapping from the reverse bulb power, therefore the camera will only be powered when i actually use it and am shifted in reverse...

any help would be great, thanks guys!

I am assuming you have finished installing your camera by now but, I am currently doing this modification to my 07 truck. I am a bit lost on the process, but I just received my tailgate handle with camera in today. It did not come with a harness so I am trying to find out how to do all the wiring to my pioneer head unit. If you could, let me know what steps you took to install your camera and what you hooked it up to. Any information would be helpful at this point.

    Thanks!

where did you all pick up the OEM cameras? how much? Sounds like you're connecting to a new HU; any ideas about stock camera rearview mirrors? Thanks!

Your camera is composite video and should work with any monitor, your head unit most likely needs a + 12 volt input from the reverse lights to switch to monitor mode. The video cable is 75 ohm RG59 and the camera will run fine with #16 hook up wire. I have no ideal what kind of connector is at the camera end but the head unit most likely is a male RCA connector. My new Taco has a camera and I am not sure if it is powered on with the key or not I suspect it is because it comes up instantly cameras take some time to fully come on so I think it is powered with the key. It does not hurt a camera to stay on they will run 24/7 for years I have some in service that are close to 25 years old.

found this on ebay for 150+shipping. It did not come with a harness so I am planning on just soldering cable to it and run everything myself to my head unit. I have been looking at many different forums and the video seems to look decent.

The OEM camera is powered when the truck is put into reverse gear.

So will it be fine to run the power from the reverse light that is 12 volts? I am hearing that it takes 5-7 volts.
