I installed the OEM power lock on my tailgate today. This is super easy and will say, if you are on the fence just do it.

However, by misfortune or idiocy, I snapped the bolt that holds the actuator. I tried an extractor but depth of the tailgate makes the bolt too deep for the set I have. I guess that leaves me with removing the handle assembly and trying to remove the bolt more directly. I searched but did not find instructions for removing and reinstalling. Anyone have any guidance on that?

Well this sucks, sorry to hear of your misfortune. I’ll be doing the same install next week and thought that I’d hit that bolt with some blue locktite so that I’m not inclined to do too many ugga duggas on it. Sorry that you’ve become a cautionary tale. I know that I read in the directions a torque value, did you use a torque wrench on it?
Just out of curiosity did you break it taking it out or putting it back in? If you broke it taking it out that would concern me about my install.
I might not be remembering correctly but I thought that the torque value might have been in inch pounds?
Sorry that I can’t help with your dissemble question but I bet someone will help here with that.

I will probably be the first and only to do it. Sad.

Removal was easy. This was putting it back in. I wasn't using a torque wrench. Correct - instructions are inch pounds so if you do torque to specs be mindful of that.

I do have an inch pounds driver that I use on my 22 rifle actions but I probably don’t have the adapter to get to that size which is why I was going use locktite then snug it, go just past that call it a day. If they’re measuring in inch pounds I can see where it’d be easy to over tighten. Sorry again for your problem.
