Although I'm not yet back into a Tacoma, I had a bad experience with the OEM tires on a new 2015 Subaru Outback I bought 18 months ago. Basically, the tires, Bridgestone Duellers, will need to be replaced by 27-28K miles. I'm a conservative driver who pays attention to his tires, regular rotations and keeping properly inflated, so I don't think I'm responsible for this dismal level of mileage from new tires.

I'll be buying an SR5 4WD crew cab in another 6-8 months and don't want to get stuck with bad tires. What are the OEM tires on a new Tacoma SR5? If I'm not happy with these, will the dealer replace them with tires more to my liking? I'm not real finicky about stuff like this, but just don't want another bad OEM tire experience.

How have others dealt with this situation?

you think the dealer will take a [retail] 6-800 dollar hit on the bottom line to swap tires

    maybe it can be negotiated

agreed, unless they are michelins, oem tires blow

it's gonna be these unless someone can confirm they come with something else
Firestone Destination LE2 tires will be on Tacomas with tire size P245/70R16 (SR/SR5) and P265/65R17(TRD Sport)

then again someone else has these

Well if that is one entirely false opinion...

But please, enlighten us with your thought process and many examples because there are tons of tire brands out there that make good tires and plenty of tires Michelin makes (other than a few of their star tires) that are crap.

Yes, there are other brands, other good tires. That's not his point. His point was OE tires.

How 'bout lets go the other way. You tell us what OE tires have been stellar for you........... excluding those on high dollar performance sports cars.

Michs are the only tire I've ever had from the factory that were worth a flip.

Buy the tires you want after you buy the truck and keep the oem takeoffs. Sell them on Craigslist to offset the cost of the new ones. Done deal.

For the record, I swapped my OEM Dunlops for Cooper AT/Ws at 2500 miles and got $300 for them on Craigslist.

In my experience, I have never had the dealer swap OEM tires.
I'm sure you could negotiate whatever you want at time of sale but Tacoma's basically fly off the lot as is in most regions.
Dealers sell trucks and if possible would do it if you bring your own tires in?
You have control over price that way.
Some TW members immediately drive to Discount Tire or whatever tire shop and trade the OEM in.
The only tires I ever immediately swapped were the Bridgestone Duellers that came on my 06 SR5 4x4.
Winter was coming and those highway tires coupled with the composite bed would not be pretty in a snowstorm on the mountain road.
My BFG rugged fails lasted surprising well on my 2013 TRD though they were strictly used on forest fire roads not serious wheeling.
I ran them down to slicks (only used summertime) and recently swapped them out for Cooper AT3s bought at a great coupon deal learned about here.
The newer brands on the 2016+ seem better. But if you are going to mod it, maybe work something out with an aftermarket shop prior to pick up.
The dealer will sell that truck regardless of the tires on it for sure.

It is against the law to sell a tire as new when its already been installed on a vehicle. They must sell the tire as used. Dealers wont take the hit and wont give you a credit for the tires.

Try a private tire shop, ask them if you buy the tires from them will they buy the old tires off of you. Otherwise like stated above, sell them on craigslist.

Thanks for your comments. Pretty much what I expected. I'll hope for the Toyo's; I've had these before on a Tacoma and they were OK.

With my last Tacoma (2007), I ran 2 sets of wheels/tires, with studded snow tires on for the winter. Might consider the same for the upcoming truck. I do quite a bit of winter driving to North Dakota, eastern Oregon and Washington to hunt and don't mind driving through the tougher conditions if I have the right tires.

    Again, thanks.
