No solace in that it’s all BS in fact that they are ok Toyota with me buying a used oem part & putting it on a brand new truck good advertising for there brand don’t you think. But they make it ok to get it new in Canada in the parts Dept.

I think the main reason is that as a smaller market Toyota Canada occasionally doesn’t like to bring in as many vehicles with factory options. In fact we never get single options like the tonneau cover from the factory. They are always grouped into packages, which the US does as well but also offers individual options.

The same thing happened with navigation about 10-15 years ago and air conditioning about 15-30 years ago. It was a factory option for the US and a dealer accessory for Canada. I remember seeing people complain then that they couldn’t buy the accessories in the US and also people in Canada complain that they charged more to add it after the fact than if it had been done at the factory.

I completely understand where you’re coming from, I’m just hoping to add context.

It’s a bad look for Toyota anyone can install them it’s not hard if you know how to work on cars & trucks even the service Dept or body shop can do it for a fee doesn’t need to be a factory only item just makes the Craigslist internet the only option to get one used.

Why would you sell it besides being so hard to get one unless you order a new Tacoma with it from the factory you can’t get one they look Great & work like a camper shell without a high top camper shell i spent 2 months looking for one access can even harder to get 2 years old one to put on a brand new Tacoma that is ridiculous from Toyota and you only find this out after buying the truck.

With trips consisting of packing up 5 people worth of things...last year i was finding it difficult to get everything packed in under the bedrails so that the cover could clear it to close properly. And ive been seeing this local guy rolling around with a black soft shell, the look has really been growing on me. and if i want to fold it up to haul the dirt bike, i can do so without having to remove it. With this hard cover, i probably have it off a half dozen times throughout the year and doing it by myself is awkward. Hell its folded up on my truck as we speak lol. I bought the truck on dealer trade and i had no idea it had one on it and the dealer i got it from didnt feel like putting it on another truck, so i got it on accident haha.

Lucky you Is it for the access cab long bed or short bed you should let it go only if you will never use it.

Its for a short bed, i have it on and laid down as much as i can to keep the schmutz out of my bed, but as time goes on i feel like im either folding it out of the way or taking it off more and more. This is the first tonneau ive ever had so it was novel in the beginning. My old man is chapped that his truck is long bed because he wants it lol.

if i cant find a buyer and it ends up just laying around, then id consider ripping that part off. We'll see if that dude looking for one responds. And all dependent on upcoming finances with all this madness going on, if i buy a topper or not. @hossler1788 ... what brand topper did you go with and anything youd do differently?

I got a 2 year old oem factory bed cover with the pins & screws the guy took it off his Tacoma last year so it’s missing those 2 rubber plug pieces he couldn’t find them & the dealer says can’t get there is no part number only comes from the factory when they install them

Still new here, but are these the parts that fit at the front end of the bed? Mine is missing them, but at some point mine did have a bed cover from the factory.

I was able to buy them once he posted the part numbers for each side I originally went to the Toyota dealer to get them when I bought a used one on CL but without the part numbers it doesn’t exist in there system for some reason & in Canada you can order the whole kit in the parts department there as long as you’re not from the USA idiots at Toyota came up with that to Force us to order one new only online when ordering a new truck not buying one from the dealer lot and you don’t find this out till after you buy it and try to get it in the parts department here.
