I ordered the OEM Toyota bed step.

    Has anyone installed this themselves?

    Any tips?

Did you use the OEM setting or move yours out more?

    Thanks

I watched the installation video, looks like the 2, 66 foot pound bolts are hard to get to.

Yes, you can adjust how far it sticks out.

Installed myself, used the recommended position per the instructions. Isn't too tough as long as you have a decent ratchet with some leverage.

I installed the bed step right after I bought my truck. The installation was pretty straight forward. I located the step at recommended setting. I didn't think it needed to be out more. Watch a couple of you tubes and you'll be a pro.

The hardest part of the installation for me was the very last step, getting the 3 littles screws to engage into the nut plates in the step. See 3:40 of the attached video. The guy in the video had no problem, but I did. The video shows the installation on a 2nd gen, it's exactly the same on the 3rd gen.

Edit: I just thought of one tip. The 3 little screws are only torqued to about 6 ft-lbs so may want to put some Locktite on them.

I had no issues installing on my 2021 tacoma.
Just installed one from amp on my F250.
The oem toyota one is said to be made by amp.
I'll be adding one to my incoming 2023 tacoma as soon as it arrives.

There are some more reasonably priced ones on Amazon. I'm going to stick with the oem version.

It's been awhile since I installed mine, but I don't recall it being difficult to do. Well worth the effort though, I use it all the time.

Mine came with the step already attached all the way extended. I like it there. The bolts you have to remove are cranked down. I didn't have a bar to put on the ratchet, doable though.

The only option for mounting is the step pad inward or outward.

Use mine all the time too - just today to hop in to fold up the Bakflip so I could load some pipe at Home Depot.

I installed mine on my 2016 and now 2022 truck. Super simple and one of those accessories that comes in super handy when you use it!

I installed mine, took less than an hour. I used red Loctite on the bolt threads.
OEM Toyota stuff doesn't come with instructions but I've attached them here. Youtube videos are good but I like to see the actual instructions too.

I installed mine easily. The bumper bolts were super tight though. It took some grunt to loosen them.

I installed mine, no problems. Top bolts hard to reach, but I was able to get it done. Did not realize the little screws had torque rating… mine are tight. I use it all the time!

Doesn't weathertech make a bed step that you insert in the hitch receiver?

Yup, but it’s blocked if you drop the tailgate. OEM step works with the tailgate up or down.

You don't need the bed step if the tailgate is up: you just step on the bumper and climb up, so I don't really understand the hitch mounted type. I installed the OEM bed step on my truck and love it. I'm not the handiest guy in the world but it wasn't that hard. I used my big Gorilla bar extendo lug wrench to crank those frame bolts off, no problem. I use it all the time to get in the bed when the tailgate is down.

When you start pushing 70 you'll understand why stepping on the bumper and swinging over the tailgate isn't the best way to go....
