    Hi all,

I searched but really couldn't find an answer with regard to trailer brakes and wiring up the back end.

I understand the Toyota Tacoma comes pre-wired with the tow package electrical and I have found the plug in the drivers side kick panel with relation to the trailer brakes connector. What I am wondering is how to wire up the back end of the trailer brake connection so that I can connect it to a 7 pin trailer connector? I understand how to wire up the front plug side to the trailer brake controller - no probs there but am wondering if there are wires on the underside of the truck that just need a hardness or something?

I checked my fuse box under the hood and it looks like only one side of the trailer fuses/relay are wired so I assume I need to wire the other side up for the harness to the 7 pin connector at the back of the truck. I'm trying to keep it as OEM as possible and don't mind extra work as long as it's a clean setup and works per specs.

    Any information would be appreciated.

    Thanks!!!

It’s already all wired for a 7pin if you have the tow package

    No tow package here.

    Sorry, forgot to add:

2005 AC TRD Offroad. No tow package hence why I am inquiring about wiring for the back end of the truck.

    Thanks!!!

We don't have the same model as yours states you have a PreRunner...whereas mine is NOT the PreRunner.

Mine has the standard 5 pin connector with 5 wires - fat yellow, blue, teal/green, black and white w/black stripe

Yeah I don't have any harness is what I am getting at per my post. So I want to know if there are wires on the back end I can buy the harness and plug into or what all word I need to get this working.

Also don't know why I need the extra two wires for this plug in my kick panel...this is for the connection to the trailer brake that mounts under the dash or in the blanks.

PreRunner is just the designation given to 2wd Tacoma's with a 4wd suspension, otherwise it's the same truck.
I couldn't say if your truck is fully prewired or not if it doesn't have the tow package, I was thinking TRD OffRoads came standard with the tow package but I could be wrong.
Anyway the wiring diagram for the trailer tow functions is attached below.

Dunno where that one person's posts went regarding wanting pics of the wiring harness so bad??? Pretty sure these are the same ones I have seen posted in the various threads here about connecting the trailer brake module to this harness, but I'm inquiring about the connection on the back end of this harness so not sure the relevance. I need to know how to wire up the 7 pin connector in the back, not how to wire up the trailer brake module to be clear as per my initial post #1.

But here it is to appease her:

Yea that's the connector to hook up a trailer brake controller, if your truck is prewired you should have connector BE1 under the truck near the rear bumper.

Thanks so much for this @Dm93!!! This is exactly what I was inquiring about and not how to wire in the trailer brake controller hahahaha - what a wasted effort.

I will look underneath for this this week, thanks!!!

    Just an update:

I couldn't find the BE1 connector or maybe I did but didn't know? Regardless, I can't install the OEM factory 7 pin harness unless I wire up the missing sides on the fuse box. What I ended up doing was running new wires from the back to the front setting up the trailer brake and constant 12v charging connection.

Thanks for every ones help who contributed something useful rather than ask me to send pictures of plugs we already known what they were for....
