Edit: finally got it for no particular reason! thanks everyone that offered advice. All is well now and it looks great!

Removed the stock black 2 skid plates on my offroad. Install of the trd pro plate has gone smoothly until I got to one of the final steps of screwing in the 2 middle bolts. They are 17mm just like the ones I removed from the stock plate, but they will not grab no matter what I do. The front 2 17mm went in smoothly as did the 2 rear 12mm bolts.
Is there some weird trick for installing on off roads? I’ve left the other 4 bolts loose so there is plenty of plate slack. The bolts just won’t grab into the holes. I’m doing this off of just YouTube videos since I don’t have the install instruction sheet.

    thanks

sounds like you have the wrong bolts and or spacers in the wrong locations.

Like buzzcut said sounds like wrong bolt or spacer location. I bought a pro style on off Amazon and I think they had the bolts in the wrong location.

I dont think it is. I bought this one used from another TW member and they left all the bolts in the plate for me. I’ll take a look at the file you shared. Thanks

merit: I did exactly what those directions you shared say. The bolt has plenty of room to move upward so it’s not a spacer issue or the plate binding. The bolt just simply won’t thread into the hole.

dont tighten the fronts and rears all the way. leave all 6 loose but, threaded in. when they are all threaded, then tighten centers, then front/rear. you are binding the bolts. Ski

I had the other 4 bolts super loose. Lots of give on the plate so I could slide it around. I do t k ow what I did but this time on attempt number 300 the bolt finally grabbed in the middle and we are good to go!
