I want to order the side by side system for my 2018 DCSB OR, two questions:

Will it work with two optima 34 batteries?
I am pcsing from TN to Alaska in December, and my truck is going on the boat on Dec 10. Will I have the kit in hand by then?

    Thanks!

The max recommended size for the side-by-side system is two Group 35's. You can see in the picture above how tight those two batteries are. The Group 34 batteries are a bit longer and shorter than those. You may be able to squeeze them in there if you are willing to cut some plastic away from the fuse box support, but I cant guarantee it.

As far as lead time is concerned. If you order a side-by-side system today, I would probably have it out this week.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Welp.. :spending:

I am curious though, for the TRD OR split kit, above you say a group 31 and group a 35. But you website says two group 35's. Does it matter?

Great question. If you dont feel like reading a dissertation... the short answer is: No. I dont believe it matters.

    Why?

When installing a dual battery system, it is traditionally recommended that both batteries be of the same size, age, and construction type. This way, both batteries charge and discharge at the same rate. So, as a general rule, I usually follow this mantra.

My true opinion is... This traditional recommendation came from battery systems in boats, RV's, and other applications that have one starting battery isolated from a large bank of house batteries. The house battery bank needs to consist of identical batteries. I agree with this. Its proven.

In contrast, an automotive dual battery system consists of one battery that is deep cycled for accessories and one battery that is used as a starting battery and kept almost fully charged all the time. With this type of use, the batteries will be mismatched from day one. So, in this application, I do not believe that a small difference in size between the two batteries will be detrimental.
