I'm looking at going dual battery. The best one I've found is:

    https://off-grid-engineering.myshop...trd-sport-sr-sr5-complete-dual-battery-system

Which says it's for the "SR, SR5 and TRD Sport"

    But they also have:

    https://off-grid-engineering.myshop...products/2nd-3rd-gen-toyota-tacoma-wiring-kit

Which says it's for the TRD OR because of ATRAC. AFAIK my 3rd gen doesn't have ATRAC. If at all possible I'd like to do the side by side because it's easier to install, but if there's a reason I should do the split system, please let me know thoughts.

The one obvious thing is better weight balance for the split system, is what comes to mind for me.

Split is better imo for that Taco lean.

Yeah the Optima D35's are something I can get fairly cheap. I just don't know if the split system is worth the extra expense. I want some batteries that are a tad bigger in CCA since a winch is in my future (near).

I'm sure you've seen this thread, but if not... take a quick look through all of the information that is out there regarding off grid set ups: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/off-grid-engineering-dual-battery-system-q-a.468553/page-12

Mine is on page 12 (should be the link) and I went with the split system due to having ATRAC on my truck (6sp manual). I bought the battery mounts from Off Grid and pieced together everything else myself. The problem most people have with dual battery set ups is their cost. The way I approached the subject was asking myself a few questions: Do I want to minimize problems in the future? Do I want to be able to safely start my truck no matter the circumstance? Do I want a system I can build off of at a later date?

By answering all of these question you will likely either determine that a dual battery system is for you or that you are way overbuilding your truck for your needs. I have about $1000 into my set up with ~$500 being the two batteries which are Group27 AGM's. It was expensive, but all of the groundwork is done for later expansion and I have confidence with the entire setup. The only problem I've run into is popping a blade fuse for my fridge circuit because it was undersized (10amp instead of 15amp).

Well I ordered the split kit and I'll be going with the recommended batteries too Odyssey PC1400 Group 35.

Bringing this up again for a minute, it's too late now since the kit has arrived, however I am curious to know everyone's experience with water resistance with this thing. Have you guys taken on any water that gets high enough to splash and/or cover the system temporarily? How'd it do?
