Are you under the impression that the ARB fridge is made by another company and simply re-branded with the ARB logo? I don't believe that to be true at all. ARB makes their own fridge (in China) as far as I know.

How many people you packing for? There are a numerous reports on EXPO of family of fours using the 50q size for 5 day trips, etc. Packing it efficiently certainly helps or is even required. :)

Well I'd like to be able to go out for a week at a time and I wouldn't need a weeks worth of cold food. The plan is to have a portable stove/grill as well but I could also bring along some MREs and other dry food. 50 might be good enough

    Too many to list now.
Yeah, we have our offroad oven and stove all setup already. The fridge is the clutch piece for camping in style haha. And yeah, after further investigation you could probably pack for a family of four in the 50 for a week. I'm still probably going to get at least the 63 though. I'd rather carry too much than not enough.

True, I just made a mockup of a fridge shelf for my rear seat. Will give me enough room to mount a 15x15x2.5 drawer underneath and still have 30+ inches on top for a fridge. the base is 19x19 so I wasnt sure if that was large enough or not, I'll have to look at the specs online

Edit: Haha way off.. Says you need at least 28" for the length.. Oh well just have to change my plans a tad

Haha I believe it, this was just a mockup made from cardboard a sharpie a tape measure and a knife, no straight edge or real tools lol, actually sat pretty level but now I need to make it longer.. its 19x19 but needs to be 19x28 (maybe 29) How do you have yours strapped down? and how tall is it when open?

Oh cool, I'll have to look when I come over. Gotta figure out how to mount mine because I think with the extra length it will extend over top of the middle seat.

True story lol, they are more for storage. I think I'm gonna remove the passenger side/middle seat bottom and back tomorrow and see how it looks and works. I know I want to keep at least one seat available tho just in case

Yeah that could have been a 1st gen ARB. From what I've read there are numerous differences between Engel's and ARB's product offerings. ARB apparently has a patent on their hinged lid design.

Designed with travelers and off-road drivers in mind, all ARB fridge freezer models come equipped with a super-durable patented hinge system with a front-opening lid that provides easy access to fridge contents. This design is compatible with ARB fridge freezer slides, which provide quick drawer-like access to the entire unit and allows you to bolt the fridge to your vehicle. ARB fridge freezers can be mounted at extreme angles up to 30 degrees without affecting operation or reliability.

Here is a nice contemporary thread detailing the differences between the modern ARB and Engel. I love the comment about filling up the ARB with spaghetti sauce and cleaning it out in short order.

Your from the north, no? You know theres frozen then theres FROZEN>>> permafrost, etc. The colder something is, the faster everything else around it will get colder.

@Crom, Yeah, I believe it was the first gen of them. The link is not working...

I agree. But a fast freeze feature really is appealing to me. Especially if I want to use it for GAME and FISH>

That feature alone was a smile on my face when I was fishing the other day. Freeze them similar to the way they do on the boats, but without the ICE> I have been batting around the idea for a couple years to get a Commercial Fisherman License and start selling them since my spots are very productive.

That's cool ( pun intended ) but maybe not a deal breaker for many users

You are absolutely correct. I could NOT find a nice commercial grade one. Deffinately wanted the AC/ DC flexability.

Don't get me wrong, I like the featured of the ARB, I just need a larger one than they offer even if it was just for the trips we as a family of 6 take.

Never know, one day I might jump up and go off the grid.
