I have mine in the engine bay for 2+ years now and all is well. But I would def mount a new one on one of the Slee mounts up forward in the bay where it can get some airflow if I did it again.

I agree. Recover gear is so important. I'd also say make sure you have the proper armor underneath your rig. I had a friend nearly destroy his transmission because the truck slipped and landed on a rock at a weird angle. Luckily he had mountain offroad's skid plates underneath. Saved our day and weekend.

Here is their front skid plate: https://mountainoffroad.com/product...-generation-3-16-steel?variant=20549998837871
Here is all of their Toyota gear too: https://mountainoffroad.com/collections/toyota

Oh and ARB Compressor & Mount. You cannot go out on the trail without having readily access to an air compressor. Many times you are using it for yourself, but also for others.

I purchased a 16 in hatchet and folding saw (Silky Gomboy Curve) in case I need to cut some wood on the trail to get free.

Taller, better A/T tires, then maybe invest in a small Bilstein 2" 5100 Lift.

Don't drive alone, you'll thank me later.

GMRS radio (with license) if you are going out where you don't get any mobile coverage.

    Extra gas.

Common sense and don't wheel beyond you and your vehicles limitations also goes a long way.....and those are free!
