Hello all I am on a hunt for legit "off road" headlights for my 3rd gen Tacoma.I take the truck through a lot of heavy brush.Seems all I can find are just neat and gimmicky headlights.Looking for actual heavy duty type.Thank you.

You're looking for something that would replace your existing headlights? Most people use light bars or pods. Rigid, Baja Designs, Diode Dynamics all make solid products.

Welcome to the forum. Have you considered adding a light bar?
Super easy to install and bright enough to shoot down a small airplane.

It really depends what you're looking for. Do you just want brighter headlights? You didn't post what year you have: if it's a modern 3rd gen you'll probably have the OEM LED lights and you can't get much better. If it's older or a lower trim, you won't and upgrading the lamps might be beneficial.

Is side illumination the issue for shelf roads and peripheral vision situations? You probably want ditch lights. But then you need to decide if you want flood or spot.

Are the OEM LED headlight assemblies not bright enough and you just need to absolutely blast directly in front of you? You probably want a light bar.

OP is looking for headlights that can take a beating to prevent damage. Says nothing about needing brighter lights. Reading is hard…….

Maybe add a brush guard to the front end?

Yup!You hit it on the head,Have already cracked one lens.Brush guards are kind of weird as the seem to grab ahold of brush.

I've never seen heavy duty lenses for any make or model. I am sure newer vehicles suffer from this more, as the headlight lenses are pushed out, presumably to make the front end more aerodynamic (same reason the haze when the get obliterated by the sun).

being the internet I'm sure someone will correct me but, short of the military using old school sealed glass lamps housed in steel shrouded housing I have never seen or heard of an off-road headlight*

    * headlight as defined by proper SAE pattern(s) for on road use

Call me crazy, but I generally choose the headlight-saving method of not running over medium sized trees.

Ran a few searches and all I found were vinyls, cheap plastic covers, ventshades and grill guards. May be out of luck, chief.

nope, nothing exists like that for anything newer than the 1st gen tacoma's that came with sealed beam headlights.

    you've really got 2 options:
1.using a sawzall, welder, grinder, bolts, and some ingenuity, replace the headlights with some offroad led lights. they'll take the abuse, but are officially illegal to be used onroad, as they don't have a DOT compliant road-going output pattern-- fines are determined by the issuing officer, but can range anywhere from a 'fix-it ticket' to impounding the vehicle, hefty fines, and jail time for 'public endangerment'.

    2. start looking into a custom metal bumper with hoops/mesh/bars in front of the headlights for better protection.

Light bar and pod lights. Works well enough.

Buy an arb bumper, or ranch hand brush guard and put auxiliary off road lights up. Only way to go. Maybe some on the cab, less chance of them getting hit.
