I'm not saying that you dont have the set up or that you dont enjoy it. You completely misunderstand. I'm saying that 5.29 gearing, on a tacoma with the 3.5, on 33 inch tires, is completely overkill. 35 inch or even 37 inch tires would make more sense with that gearing. The OP is looking to do what most other people that are moding these trucks is looking to do. But NONE of that would even come close to requiring or even needing gearing that tall.

So what I'm saying is. Your advice is bad.

Ignore that ADM BS. I just purchased my brand new ‘19 Pro on the last day of August and paid $5k under MSRP, $42.8 plus tax and license, and this is in SoCal.

Just food for thought really with the pro you get different wheels, a snorkel and Fox suspension, TRD exhaust and a couple other things really if I were in the market I would go with an OR for the fact that if I was going to lift, which I probably would, I would hate to spend all that money for the pro and essentially throw the original suspension by the way side. If the Fox suspension is such a factor you can always get a lift kit that uses fox suspension and it will probably be way less than the premium you are paying for the pro. Just my .02 but if you plan on making your truck your "own" then stay away from the pro otherwise your just throwing money away that you could use to make it your own and even better than the "PRO".
But like others have said decide what you want to do with it first then decide what model will best suit your plans.
Good luck with your purchase and decision.

The sport does not add anything but a non functional scoop, stiffer lower quality shocks, and that plastic chin that supposedly helps with MPGs. It is missing features the OR and Pro have but costs the same as the OR.

No I completely understand the transmission on the 3rd gen. But I also come from years of experience in off roading many different makes of vehicles and working on them.

I'll give you an example. My old jeep had 3.73 gears and ran 35s, was it perfect? Nope. But it handle those tired are speeds of 75 mph with zero issues and trails just fine.

Now let's look at the gears on Tacoma. They were set low from the factory to increase fuel efficiency. But 5.29 gearing is overkill. I've seen plenty of 3rd gens on 35s running 4.88 or even stock gears and have very few issues. 33 inch tires on 5.29 gears is like buying a 700hp hellcat engine and putting it in a civic.

OP, don't pay too much for leather. I spent $700 for Clazzio leather covers and people can't tell they are not OEM. If a seat cover rips one day I just replace that seat cover. Clazzios covers are one of the highest quality aftermarket items you can get for a Taco.

Quit half stepping and buy the Pro! I’ve had SR5, & TRD sport. I noticed spending mad money on a new truck to ultimately be a Pro. As we come to the end of 2019 and the 2020s will be arriving shortly now is an excellent time to purchase the pro model. I bought mine a few weeks ago and don’t wanna hurt anybody’s feelings but managed to get several thousands of dollars off MSRP.

I say the Pro. Yes the price tag is higher, but doing tons of mods is really expensive too, and you won't get that money back.

Use the money you'll save buying an OR and put it towards mods.

I was hell bent on getting a PRO, then I sat down and actually looked into what you can actually get on a OR and found that with the exceptions of red stitching on the seats, a badge on the door, and Fox suspension, you can get everything else. You may need to expand your search area a little but they are out there. I got my '19 DCSB M/T with TRD skid plate, exhaust, and intake. It also has every other option offered for the Tacoma as far as leather, sunroof, tech package, power rear window, rear locker, ect ect ect. I had already planned on doing the same mods you listed and I just didn't make sense to spend the extra money on the PRO and then replace all the parts I paid extra money for with aftermarket parts. If you planned on leaving it bone stock and enjoying it that way then I could see maybe spending the extra money, but it seems o me that's not the path you want to take.

Everyone keeps saying that you never get your money back on mods and you are better off going with a PRO, but I'm not building MY truck to sell, I'm doing what I want to do so I can enjoy it the way I want to.

Yeah. Everyone has good points. Its a question of modding it yourself or going stock and keeping the truck the way it is. Maybe in the future I may change the wheels but I am 40 now and I have a 66 mustang I am restoring so all my "Modding" energy is going towards that now lol. It's funny....I look back and I use to think about some of the old timers at the fire station..."man you have a bad ass truck and you keep it stock?!!! What a waste..." lol. OH how life has a way of coming around.

I went with the TRD Offroad with Premium + Tech package. That way i got leather seats still with sunroof etc (same as Pro).

My rational was that i knew i wanted to upgrade the suspension either way and could funnel the extra money into those upgrades

Ended up paying 38k for my offroad and ended up spending ~6/7k for Kings suspension, new tires/wheels, Prinsu rack + TRD exhaust & soft topper (would put me at ~ 44-45k all in). In my opinion i got a truck i wanted (with better suspension tires/wheels + accessories) for at or even less cost than buying a TRD Pro (where i'd still need to get new tires and accessories etc)

I will say however i like the scoop even it if is non-functional but for me the TRD Offraod premium worked out great and i dont' regret it.

100% agree with you. And yes the scoop serves no function, but does look good.
