folks that motor where cactus and sharp rock are prevalent, what type of tires do you recommend? 99% of driving is pavement but I’m planning driving to Wyoming from east coast then it’s prairie and cactus.

This video sold me on the coopers for puncture resistance. They are also quiet for how aggressive they are and wear great as well.

Never regretted my E load 10+plys. Love the ride, weight doesn't seem to be an issue, actually I only went up 4lbs a corner when I went to my 285's from my 255's since I also went to light weight SCS wheels.

I do realize 16lbs of unsprung weight is a fair amount, but hey, it's a truck.

Actually since I went up to 285 70 17 my MPG actually increased slightly thanks to the better final drive ratio while cruising and I do mostly highway miles anyway. On long distance trips I see 20+mph I average right at 18 now.

That is a good vid, still partial to my BFG's though. I wonder how good their, coopers, sidewalls are.

They exist here in Colorado too. More an Eastern Plains thing.

Well, that’s what Easterners think, they’ve seen westerns. Actually, there are a few native types of Wyoming cacti, but they don’t grow very big and never on trails and wouldn’t do much of anything to a good tire.

Now as for those jackalopes, my KO2’s have never been punctured running over one, so that says a lot. I do recommend BFG’s though, used them fom many miles on desert offroad with no punctures as all.

If you come out a bit further west, get your pic on the wall at Denio Junction Bar :) And those weren’t cactus spines, they were jackalope antlers.

8 ply tires in general will give you sharp/dull rock flats, I now swap out the 8ply's that come on any truck for 10ply and I have never had an issue. I've run BFG & Toyo's and have never had a single puncture in 20 years in CO.
