Last year I completed the majority of a 90% off-road route from Alberta, Canada, to the Mexican border. We were riding mountain bikes and following this route http://www.bikepacking.com/routes/great-divide-mountain-bike-route-gdmbr/

How pheasible is this using my truck? My wife and I are discussing a month trip next year following the route, and of course including many side routes to explore everything I couldnt reach using my bike. Exploring ghost towns, camping in the plains, and enjoying gravel roads that are rarely occupied.

My truck will be in pretty good shape by then. I have a 2014 4x4 with leer 100xr. Going on in the next few months are: Demello single hoop steel front bumper with KC light bar and Piaa fogs, Pelfreybilt sliders and steel bumper, OME kit with Dakars, and BAMF skid trilogy. I'll probably use the tires and wheels I have now if they still have some life left (42k on 285/75/16 general duelers). May change to a 275/75 next go around.

We already backpack so we have gear suitable for camping (and hiking out if necessary), including a delorme in-reach satellite tracker/messenger. We will plan other items needed in case of mechanical issues, including spare fuel, water, compressor, a full size spare, hi lift, and shovels etc. We haven't purchased many of those items yet but plan to before we get down to planning.

And we're undecided on whether to RTT or just regular tent camp.
