Has anyone replaced stock SR5 suspension with the OR suspension? I’m looking at doing this to mine.

SR5 is 3 months old and I swear they changed something in the suspension. Buddy has a 2020 SR5 and his suspension makes mine feel like it’s filled with cement. Same road both trucks less than 5 minutes apart on a seat swap and mine feels like an old deuce and a half suspension from the Army. His feels totally different, much smoother and refined over the exact same bumps. Will swapping to OR suspension help this at all?

Getting ready to fork over $$$ for lots of land in WY and rather not spend an arm and a leg right now for suspension. Have a few take off in my area for 3 to 400 bucks.

Thoughts and usable opinions welcome. Thanks.

Get bilstein 4600s instead, they're about the same price and slightly better

It'll be plug and play. OR suspension might feel even more 'loosy goosey' on pavement, tho compared to the stock SR5 suspension.

But it's definitely doable and pretty easy DIY.

If I wanted my sr5 to have the OR suspension I would have bought an OR. Sounds like another case of sour grapes, but then again its Friday.

His suspension has had 2-3 years of driving on it, and his shocks are more worn than yours. Don't fret, yours will feel that way eventually too.

Save your money, for now. You have land to buy!

I bought mine based on my friends which is a 20. Mine is a 22 bought in October. Even he agrees that something major changed with the suspension on mine. Not sour grapes just wanting to make something better.

And not a f’ing Friday thread. If it was a Friday thread I’d same some stupid shit like “Biggest 3rd gen reveal coming”. Looking for honest opinions. I’m not a Tacoma god, haven’t had a Toyota truck since my 87. No I don’t have all the shit most guys have as my truck is new. Just asking for help or is that not allowed because I don’t have over 5k posts.

Funny I was just read this and texted him for his miles. He deploys when I come home and vice versa. His has a whole 9100 miles and I’m sitting at 3750.

Thank you for the thought. It was something I hadn’t thought about.

I went with 3rd gen OR take offs when I replaced my suspension in my second gen. It was cost effective and improved how the truck rode a lot. Granted my truck had 140k on it when I made the swap so I can’t comment too much on a direct comparison between 3rd gen SR5 vs OR

Do both trucks have same tire ratings? Both same pressures?

Both have the same tires, the stock Toyo’s. We did it a second time after airing them up identically. I can’t compare anything truck related as I haven’t owned a Toyota truck in years but it’s like running a Lexus IS-F electronic suspension in track mode vs normal.

Quick scan gave me the impression that the Bilstein 4600's are about $100 each. That almost hits your $400 mark and would be a LOT better than the OR shocks.

IMO the more you pay the better the ride. I know I wouldn't put $200 into stock OR shocks, they feel like crap to me.

I wouldn't pay that for a OR suspension. That's to much, $200 @ most. I gave my sport suspension away, 100 miles on it.

Thank to both ^. That’s good info. Not like I can just run out and drive an OR. That’s why I asked. Thanks.

You can also get a set of 5100's for under $400 (I paid $389 and they are still available at that price), if you are looking to level the front up. Essentially the same shock as the 4600 and according to Bilstein there are no internal differences, but I have no doubt others here will disagree. :annoyed: They have the added features of height adjustment on the fronts and they are plated instead of painted.

The SR5 stock suspension is super underwhelming. I sold my 21 offroad setup to my coworker and she installed it on her 21 SR5 with no issues. Fantastic pnp upgrade for the price.
