Looking to spend Valentine's day to off road and go for a hike. Anyone know any current open spots?

I'm looking at Shasta Bally Peak but not sure if it's open right now. I think I read a while back that there was a fire or something near Whiskeytown Lake?

For the sake of a chat iv been doing a bunch of spot hunting via google earth and other apps. I grew up in the Clovis/Sanger area for a long time and we would shoot up to the Mono Hot Springs area a lot. last week my wife and i went on a little road trip and hit Yosemite,Shaver Lake over to SLO then Pismo for some chowder at Splash THEN over to Morrow Bay to get on the 1 and shoot up home enjoying stops on the way. Long story short, being up at shaver got me thinking that i should head up and explore the area again. Doris Lake has my interest.

Wow that looks great! I'll check the drive times for that and see if I can fit it in our day. Otherwise this will definitely be done for another day or weekend.

Decided to hit up Hull Mountain for Valentine's day. I think it was pretty successful, got all the way up the mountain until the last quarter mile left. Trail leading all the way to the top still had a good amount of untouched snow. Hiked up the rest on foot and still got to enjoy the top view.

View from the bottom near the lake looking back at where we came from.

Girlfriend and I tried to pick up as much trash as we could on the way up and down, filled up our bag. Coors seems to be the most popular choice being dumped on the side of the trail.

Hoping to come back when the snow melts and bring the truck all the way to the top!

Dry! It was pretty easy. Mind you our truck is pretty stock aside from the wheels and tires. The last .2 miles left is where all the snow is at, so we just hiked up the rest on foot

Yeah definitely, uh once you're at the base of the trail. It took us about an hour and a half, we did stop a few times to take pictures.

I think this is a good one but not open yet. Check it out later in the year...like maybe early summer.

Drive to Bishop and take Silver Canyon Road to White Mountain Road.
Take a left onto White Mountain Road and follow that until you come to the gate. Stop at Ancient Bristle Cone Pine Forest along the way.
From the gate hike up the road past Barcroft Research Station and continue on to White Mountain Peak. The views along the way are pretty good.

The trial head at the gate is at like 11,600 or 11,700, Barcroft is at 12,400something and White Mountain Peak is at 14,252. Total round trip from the gate is like 15 miles with about 3400 feet of elevation gain. It's the easiest CA 14er and you can mountain bike it and it's also dog friendly.

They open the road to Barcroft 2 weekends a year so you can knock off a couple miles and some elevation by going those weekends.

You can also do this hike from the Owens Valley that gets you 8100 feet of elevation gain.
