Off Road vs. Sport for snow?

    Haven't driven in snow in 20 yrs.... :D
    Any 4x4 will do well in the snow, lockers don't help much on the road in deep snow, used to be slipping and sliding all over the place.

    Can't speak for the OR but the sport is fine. I have a DCSB, live in CT. Drive anywhere from 300-1000 miles/week. We get wet snow, powder, sleet/slush, and freezing rain during winter. Handled it great. Also found that I didn't need to use 4WD too much but definitely worth having in case this happens:

    WI doesn't get enough snow that it matters, honestly. It's more cold than anything else.

    Tire chains are legal, BTW. Sure, it's only under conditions that warrant their use, but why would you use them otherwise ?

    Studded tires are illegal, though. (Certain exemptions apply).

    bwaaaahahaha, I was thinking the same thing.

    OP, Just make sure you get a 4x4 truck if you don't want problems in snow. Also, good tires, some weight in the bed, and some decent driving skills will go a long way.

    OR or Sport? Which one do YOU like better?

    True, I moved from BC with the wet slush that would pull the car around to Alberta with dry fluff that doesn't do anything.

    The biggest impacting factor in snow is the driver and tires. Get a good AT with the snow flake and you'll love winter driving.

    Lots of guys who wheel on ice and mud regularly put lockers up front and LSD in the rear. That last south American rig dude yanked the rear locker and installed a LSD.

    interesting but what happens if the e locker breaks then you are no better than the sport :p. What if that Sport has front and rear lockers then he can do donuts all the way to the donut shop.

    We don't get the kind of snow that this reliably matters. Just don't get a mud/terrain tire. The snow turns to ice with enough frequency that M/T tires are frighteningly terrible on the roads.

    I've got BFG A/Ts at near stock size. They do pretty well. My wife has some.... generic light truck tires on her 4Runner. I haven't had to rescue her in the snowstorms we have had, so I'd say they are OK. It's possible to overthink it - I think it snowed more than 2-3 inches 4 times last winter.
