    Just starting...
Had a ACLB offroad, never needed the locker.

Now have DCSB. Kinda wish I had the long bed so I didn't need to do things like put in a folding ladder at an angle to fit in the back and close it. I like the idea of being able to use the back to camp inside the shell. Never did so though.

However...there are a number of times out on a mountain trail that I was very glad I could turn as tight as I could. I did not have an additional 4 feet to turn.

Driving to work and going to lunch with people? It's remarkable how crowded and tight parking lots can be at lunch. Again, very glad I can fit into a regular parking stall on a crowded day.

I did do a Christmas parade in my truck. Actually used the outlet to hook up 700 LED lights. I had 9 people in my truck waving at the crowd.

So are you going to be hauling people? How about little people in car seats?

Are you hauling plywood? Camping in it?

    Do you like chrome?

I don't like chrome. Reason enough to switch to the Sport.

You can literally get rid of all of the chrome on the truck for under $100. Instead of paying 5k for Toyota to do it.

    Fancy Mirrors are another $100.

The sport package is $4500 or something close to that on the Toyota Canada website.

I didn't realize you couldn't get a DC OR here though

maybe in CA, but i have NEVER seen a AC cab with off-road package? not here anyway. but like i stated before the dealer has told me flat out because their cost for an AC vs DC is so little no dealers around here even stock AC's.

its about $800-$900 difference their price and they do not sell well.

also i saw someone said before you can not get a trd sport DC with short bed anymore?

i started really noticing, i think i have only seen maybe 10 tacoma DC with long beds (of any kind, sport, OR,SR5, and i KID YOU NOT its almost ridiculous, if you stop at any stop light on a semi-major street you will be at least 1 of 3 2nd gen tacomas at one of the 4 directions!

also is it true there is only one sport package now?

i did stop by on friday, riding with my dad (he's 76 and hardcore nissan owner for long as i can remember) to get him to look at the 4runner before he bought an infinite 60, and there was not an OR or SPORT to be found!

i was going to do some snooping :) but apparently most all the dealerships around here sell them before they arrive. heh, thinking back, thats what is did to :) , LOL! first 2 2nd gen trd sports EVER coming to louisiana, i bought the black one. funny thing is, about 2 weeks later, was at the park, and the guy who bought the blue one was there, as i past by, we both looked at each other and were like WTF! i had to stop and chat about the taco's, lol!

anyway, i guess all these weird rules on what you can buy are just in CA?

if its true there is only 1 sport package now, in the OR vs SPORT debate, although i am (as you know) a hardcore trd sport fan, if they only have the sucky package now, i highly recommend getting an OR and swap the hood if you like the look of a sport.

    cheers,
    disco

Get a Sport lockers suck because it makes everything boring. My old FJ80 and 13 JK4D were like a bumpy slow ride in Uwharrie. Even a girl can do it. It takes a real man with skills to wheel open diffs:D

When I bought mine I was looking for the cheapest version as I was coming off of trying to find a good used one to buying a low optioned new one. When it came down to it, I had two to choose from. A Sport and an SR5 I believe. The only difference was the SR5 came w/ navigation and the Sport did not. They were within $100 of each other. I went a looked at both side by side. I decided I preferred the look of the Sport, the seats of the Sport and the wheels of the Sport. And the fact that the Sport sat about 1" higher.

I'm so happy my instinct was right about picking the Sport.

The $4500 Sport option gives you much more than just the painted grill surround and painted mirrors with blinkers and painted bumper.

Also, try to find a stripped version of a DCLB 4x4 on any lot. They don't exist because nobody wants one.

The base price of nearly any vehicle is for marketing reasons only. They option just about every car off the line beyond the base.

with no options? SR5 is not base either. I don't think you can find a 4x2 here. My dealer has rows, plural, of Tacomas. At least 50 trucks/row. SR5 w/ options, Sport w/ options, Off Road w/ options, Baja TX w/ options. What color do you want? I was only limited by LB. They had three maybe four. White and some other weird brown. I walked those rows up and down over a couple days. Mostly looking for LBs. They had no way to know other than by color. Each row was a different color. They sold the silver one I wanted the day before.

Options are where the dealer makes most/more of it's new car money. That and your trade and financing. Why do you think they hit you so hard in financing to get more options? You might find a dealer who specializes in fleets. Then you can find some weird base shit. But their ordering enough of those that there's some money on the individual sale. And it's not unheard of to have one or two really low end versions for advertising. Again, marketing. Did you get a base?
