    Evening,

Please don’t take this the wrong way. Please. ‍I have a question. I off road for work a lot of the time. I drive to mountain top comm sites all the time. I drive up mean trails. Trails which have shredded a brand new set of K02’s in 3 days. I drive a stock F350 4x4 XL long bed (for work). It kicks ass too.

My question is....how is this fun? It’s a pain in the ass for me. And why does everybody feel like they need to mod their trucks like it’s road warrior XI. A stock tacoma SR5 4x4 would make it to the top of most trails.

Please. Don’t flame me. It’s been bothering me for along time. ‍

If I am banished from these hallowed halls, so be it.

It's because you're forced to do it. We aren't. We seek it out, not told to do it.

Everyone finds different things to be fun. What are your hobbies? I’m sure they will be a bunch of people here that find them to be a pain in the ass and a waste of money too.

To understand you will need to get a 8-6 desk job with a 60 minute one way commute.

It’s probably a pain in the ass for you because you’re working. I off-road to recreate. Fish, camp, drink beer...fun stuff. And sure, I can do those things in a car and not off-road but once you hit a 4WD road it eliminates like 75% of the crowds, which is nice, especially as Colorado gets more and more crowded.

I've met so many elite skydivers that started hucking other jumpers out as tandem instructors, when it becomes a paycheck, it's just work, it's just a means to end. I've even met burned out dudes from red bull airforce. When money's involved, shit changes.

Never said it’s a waste of time or a pain in the ass for other people just wanted an opinion. I drove up to a scary ass site This week. I went up hills that I knew I could t go back down without sliding off a cliff. Luckily I found a new way down. It was stressful. That’s why I’m asking. Please do not take offense.

Love your job and you'll never work a day in your life.

    Lies.

Make a job out of what you love and eventually you'll hate it.

    Yup...its Friday
Like you, I also drive off road for work as an archaeologist for the Forest Service and i still think its fun as shit.

And thank you for complimenting the SR5

The only part i dont like is washboard

Edit: that being said, rock crawling looks stressful to me, and in my spare time i mainly hit the trails to go dispersed camping rather than for the sport of wheelin’ it

Im not taking offense, I’m just confused about your question. You don’t find off-roading fun and want to know why other people do? I don’t find getting punched and kicked in the face fun either, but lots of people like participating in UFC (I don’t think this is the right terminology for mixed martial arts fighting so feel free to correct me). I guess it has something to do with adrenaline and a sense of accomplishment like most things.

I used to spend way too much time computering on my own. Now I do it for a living.

Getting home and opening up the toolbox is my relaxation.

Its better to be prepared and have all the gear for rough terrains instead of finding yourself in a situation where you need to get past bad terrain and your truck isnt equipped for it. Its nice to know that with my truck I can go out hunting, go fishing, go mudding, go off-roading, use it to explore forest, use it for family vacations, everyday use, and that things like rock sliders will protect it from both trees and idiots in the city who open their doors too wide.

Having a truck that can do anything = freedom to do any hobbies or discover new hobbies without being held back by your vehicles limitations. I plan to turn my Tacoma into a zombie apocalypse vehicle / bug out vehicle eventually.

Yeah. Probably why I’ve stayed mostly stock. I’m like...nah. Not feeling any type of wrenching or measuring or welding, for the most part, after 5pm. Nagganahappun

I work for a busy metropolitan fire department in one of the roughest cities on the east coast. I do it to unplug, to de stress after long shifts of staring at asphalt and brick buildings. To find the most epic camping spot the furthest away from the shitty dirty drug infested people who leave their small kids home alone while they chase a high on a daily basis and make you lose your faith in humanity. (One reason Amongst many others).

It’s a disconnect for me, a mental reset. You need that sh*t in (our) line of work to keep your brain focused happy and clear. Anyone who says otherwise is a liar.
