I would like to start going off reading with my 2007 Toyota Tacoma trd. The truck is stock. I'm not sure on what I need to get or do to it before going out in the mud. Keep in mind I don't have a lot of money to play with lol. Any ideas?

Welcome to TW! Start by looking for local fire roads or ohv parks. Get your feet wet first before tackling anything big. The truck is capable of a lot just being stock. Go have fun.

I would focus on under armor, protect that truck. Then as you gain experience you will learn what your truck needs. And the best idea I can add, start saving the cash so when you do something, you can do it right.

I'd say take it out and enjoy it. Keep your trails mild to start with and add mods as you can afford it and as you need it. Maybe best make sure you go with at least 1 other vehicle so if you get stuck there's somebody to help. Use the buddy system. I'm still building mine so deffinately no expert here but I'll pass along some advice I was given. Consider armor first to protect your truck then go from there.

Thank you. Might sound stupid but what do you mean by under armour?

If I were to do it over, I'd go skids & sliders first. Then go from there with tires and winch

I don't know too much about lifts, but they don't always provide you with more clearance, and again I will protect my truck before increasing its potential to really fuck shit up.

Being in Canada, I would make sure they are good in snow, unless this isn't a daily driver

I jumped on a lift on my first truck very first thing before I found TW. It was a mistake and acually had to redo my lift when I discovered TW and sound advice on what actually works. Hell we all want the truck to be taller and look beefy but if you want to off road look more towards function instead of looks. The looks will come along with it as you go. As @Spare Parts and @Oreo Cat stated skids and sliders to protect the truck. With skids though consider the terrain you will be driving in. If there's alot of rocks go with steel if you run mainly in sand you can get away with aluminum. Be smart and buy good uality stuff as it will serve you well. I have All Pro sliders, however, I have welded together and installed a set of 4x inovation sliders which are less exspensive but good quality.

Depending if you want to make it crazy or not after skids and sliders I would get a hidden winch or slimline for the winch. Or full plate/hybrid if I wanted to make it look different

If you get the main 3 skids IFS, Transmission, and Transfer case and a good set of sliders you should be pretty good. At least to start Ha Ha

This is something I havent tackled yet myself but I'd think recovery after protection, as your saying, is probably the next most important
