This is an interesting video I took while vacationing in Costa Rica. A tour bus decided to go into the beach, got stuck, and then the high tide came back. It was an adventure that I decided to help the locals in the pushing process while a Toyota jeep came in to help. :D

Yes, the bus did make it out. Unfortunately, the video was cut moments before it was pulled out. It took lots of pushing and pulling. Yes, the other FJ was completely drowned. The story is that the bus apparently came in help of the red FJ, but he got stuck, and the green FJ came to bail him out. I didn't hang around for the red FJ to get pulled out since it was pretty much covered in water. That was the last time the bus driver held a job as a driver. Lesson learned, I hope.

God what I'd give to own an old landcruiser like that. Toyota of El Cajon's owners have two of those sitting in the dealership for display. I drool every time I see them.

Technically speaking the Toyota Land Cruisers were originally named the Toyota "Jeep".

It's an 89 Toyota Pickup. I got some stuff done to it.. FJ axles going under it soon.
    More torque in reverse.
You ever notice how much 4L torque you have in reverse?

He woulda just spun the piss out of the tires in 1st.
That van weighs more then the Landcruiser probably.
So he used the torque to his advantage.

    LC driver was actually smart.

The only way that would have worked going forward is if the guy had an actual "snatch" strap. Then the dynamics of the strap plus the recovery vehicle would have free'd the van easier.

It's hard on your gears. They're designed to have more power applied in a forward motion. If you have straight cut gears then it doesn't really matter but most vehicles have helical gears.
