From my understanding, the longer the antenna the better. I think I’ve got a 7.5inch one on mine and its considerably better than the little stock one.

As for that cable, im not sure what it does exactly but don’t need it just to talk/communicate.

I know the answer was semi-brief but hope it helped :notsure::cheers:

This is what I have and it works great.

    Radio
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007UYKG4E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    2 way speaker
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008RZ0EQ0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Extended Antenna
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KC4PWQQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Keep in mind, that antenna is pretty damn long. If you are in a tight group, you wont need it. I used the long one last weekend and it was in the way in the truck. For this trip Im just gonna use the stock one, and bring the long one just in case.

You dont need this cable. Its only for saving channels by name, rather than frequency. I have it, but havent used it. If you are using your radio ALOT then yea get this cable and software. If its just one off runs, just save your channels using the frequency.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CP0I474/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The only other thing Im considering getting ie either another battery or the car charger they have. But the charger is kinda janky, you have to bring the cradle in your car to charge it. There arent any power input ports on the radio itself.

That being said, the radio lasted me all weekend last weekend with no power issues, so its pretty good.

Also, watch this video, helps a lot if you are new to Baofeng radios

Its pretty cool. Im working out a better way to mount the radio with the 2 way attachment. Im considering putting the radio in the little slot to the bottom left of the steering column, then using a scosche mag mount for the top of the dash to put the 2 way.

Only thing that sucks from what I have seen with this setup is that the radio wont fit in the "cubby hole" with the clip on, so... :notsure:

    I will figure somthin' out.

I also picked up a Trasharoo. Been wanting one for a while. I hate juggling trash on the trail. Empty cans rolling around, used wrappers etc.

I am really surprised how damn big this thing is. Its 2x what I though it would be. I could hide a body in it

Hey @CaliRaisedLed will there be fuel offered as part of this run? Im just going off of what James said and the OTG site.

Trying to decide how many RotoPax to bring. Im thinking just 1 2 gallon should work.

Depends on the camp spot for gas. You can make a run to get gas from Cima Road to I-15 but I doubt you will need more gas. They list it as 140 miles and off-road at 8-10mpg that is 17-14 gallons. Not sure of your specific tank size but my Tundra has a 26 gallon tank and have never needed gas on the Mojave rd.

Yea I figured, was just trying to get a ball park. Its a 2.5hr drive for me to the starting point. I can just fill up before we start, and carry 2gall with me.

Probably the normal Mojave stops - travelers Monument, Lava Tubes, Akin Mine, Mojave Mailbox, Government holes, Penny can, School bus, Ft. Mojave. Tons of info on the Mojave rd if you google it. I have run it maybe 8 times or so and always fun. Depending on the group size I am not sure where they plan to camp. I know of a few places big enough for a large group but we normally only have 6-8 rigs max on our runs so its a bit easier to find a spot.
