Stronghammer- not sure how we won by that much, I've always respected the Tigers. They'll beat you down, but show good sportsmanship. Maybe our defensive front 7 are better than I've given credit. Good luck this season!

I was blown away. Recent years have been a dog fight with msu and I've enjoyed it but gosh what a beat down. I wish the dogs luck for the season and hope they win it all after that sort of embarrassment to my team lol.

You have to remember that LSU's defense is not elite this year. Lost 5 to the NFL and no one to take their place.

FWIW, the only La State game in Baton Rouge that I attended while in school was the 31-0 game with Coach Fran in 2002. It was a pretty good whoopin'.

I'd also be one of those bammers who said that the 21-0 NC game in 2012 was a pretty good stomping, especially given what was on the line, but I can't argue that yesterday's game didn't feel worse.

you are correct, they're a very young team. that shows in penalties too...but gosh even in years past when so many have gone on to the NFL there hasn't been a whooping like that one..

I only started being concerned with college ball around 2000-2001 and don't really have a great memory in those first years since I was only 10 years old in '01 lol.

Again, I'm not saying Alabama didn't own LSU in that game...but it wasn't a beatdown or "stomping". Alabama fought for the 21 points they got in the NC, and they held arguably one of the worst offenses in the country (not really a feat). I just feel some people use words like "stomp" "rout" "destroyed" too quickly when it's a shutout without analyzing the actual situation.

Everyone is going to have a problem on the o line going against Bellamy and Carter this year. Those guys have looked almost unstoppable through stretches of games so far.

I've done some digging and I've changed my mind. The 2012 national championship game was absolutely a WHOOPIN!

La State's played the 8th toughest schedule in the country that year. They were the consensus #1 team in the country from week 8 on (and were #1 in the AP from week 4 on). Of 130 teams in FBS, their offense ranked 17th... far from "one of the worst." Before the NC game, there was widespread talk about the team possibly being the "greatest team of all time."

    That year they averaged
    • 35.7 PPG overall
    • 34.7 PPG vs FBS
    • 31.6 PPG vs ranked teams
    • 32.2 PPG vs SEC
    • 27.7 PPG vs SEC West
If you exclude the two Alabama games that year, the numbers go up to
    • 40.9 PPG overall
    • 40.2 PPG vs FBS
    • 39.3 PPG vs ranked teams
    • 39.1 PPG vs SEC
    • 39.3 PPG vs SEC West

Some select scores from that season...
    • Oregon (then-ranked #3) - Won 40-27
    • MSU (#25) - Won 19-6
    • West Virginia (#16) - Won 47-21
    • Florida (#17) - Won 41-11
    • Tennessee - Won 38-7
    • Auburn (#19) - Won 45-10
    • Ole Miss - Won 52-3
    • Arkansas (#3) - Won 41-17
    • Georgia (SECC) (#12) - Won 42-10
More stats.... the La State offense...[Regular season & SECC ] / [Bama in NC]
    • Rushing Yards/game - 215.2 / 39
    • Passing Yards/game - 160.2 / 53
    • Total Yards per game - 375.3 / 92
    • Points per game - 40.5 / 0
As for the national championship game... Some of the stats are above, but let us not forget that not only did Alabama prevent the Tigers from scoring, they didn't allow the team to end a single drive beyond the 50 yard line, and only allowed them to cross it one time.

That's a whoopin! Thank you for the opportunity to dig into some of the details and remind myself of it.

I'm sorry, but since when is 160 pass yards and only 375 total a good offense? As an Alabama fan you should know the statistics never speak the whole story, but also as an Alabama fan you may not be smart enough to know that. The NC offense was led by none other than Jordan Jefferson, who did not lead LSU to the NC game. Jarrett Lee did.

Alabama scored 1 touchdown at 4:36 to go in the 4th quarter. They scored 5 field goals otherwise the rest of the game. Again, please tell me how that constitutes a whooping?

I've never seen 3 star out play 5 star players like Saturday. I think is was coaching, Coach "O" was at Ole Miss and it was a disaster. LSU is loaded with big full grown men, no one will be bigger, faster or stronger than LSU players.

No need to get personal. I'm smart enough.

375 yards / game was good enough to be in the top 20 in all of football that year while playing in the toughest division in all of football (at the time).

Scoring 6 times and keeping your opponent off of your side of the field seems pretty good to me. To do it against one of the best two defenses in the country also seems pretty good to me.

I never said it wasn't a feat, but it's not a whooping. 5 field goals never constitutes a whooping. 5 touchdowns, sure. It was still a defensive slugfest, but Bama was able to get close enough for field goals where LSU wasn't.

Agree to disagree if you want, but I will never see that as a whooping. Embarrassment? sure since LSU only crossed the 50 once, but LSU held the heisman trophy winner to 1 LATE 4th quarter TD and the national championship team to 1 touchdown in 2 games.

I'm fine to agree on embarrassment and disagree on whoopin'.

FWIW - Trent Richardson scored the touchdown. He was a Heisman finalist, but he didn't win it (RGIII)
