Official 2017 NCAA Football thread

FWIW... There is no college football playoff poll after the NC game (just like there was no BCS poll after the BCSNC back in the day). Alabama was #1 in every college football playoff poll last year... and we all know how that turned out.

The Bama fans that are upset are morons. I don't know one who is upset by the poll. I'd much rather be 2 or 3 or 4 (or even out of it) right now.

We didn't drop. Bama is still #1 in the AP and Coaches polls. The playoff ranking is its own animal. I think we'd have been #1 if FSU had turned out the way the pre-season hype said they should, but since they haven't we don't have a win over any GOOD teams. UGA's win over ND is a big deal, b/c ND is the 3rd best team in the land in the committee's eyes.

 

More fun with polls...

If UGA hangs on to the #1 in the playoff ranking, and Alabama remains #1 in the AP and/or coaches poll, we could have a #1 vs #1 match-up in the SECC!

I thought this was interesting... Only three teams have been included in every single iteration of the college football playoff top-25 poll: Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State. (Florida State and Utah have one less appearance each, and since they're not in this week's poll, it means they were in every poll the last three years.)

If they really knew that the kid had a concussion and played him anyway, they should all be gone. They're likely all gone anyway, but that's inexcusable.

However... all the story says about whether or not they knew is "Sources also confirm that Kendrick told a member of the Vols staff that he was feeling woozy. It is unclear when and what Jones knew himself." Unless there's more proof that the coaching staff KNEW he had a concussion, then Butch can/should fight like hell to keep his buyout and not get fired for cause.

The AP and Coaches poll mean absolutely nothing, to claim being #1 in that poll now is like claiming a bunch of national titles you didnt even win

Butch doesn’t have the final say on concussions. The medical staff and independent examiners have the final say. I don’t put this one squarely on butch.

 

Those polls mean something again at the end of the season, as they're the only polls left after it's all said and done, but I agree that it's irrelevant where you're ranked in AP/Coaches when the playoff poll is out.

It would still be funny. CBS probably won't put #1 by both teams, but it seems like something they COULD do to drum up interest (as if it would need to be drummed up)

It's one of those "the buck stops here" situations. That kind of thing can't be tolerated. Also, if he had a concussion for that long, how oblivious was Butch?

 

Yea I get that. I’m just saying if he wasn’t told the kid couldn’t go back in, it isn’t really his fault. That’s why they have an independent examiner there - so that someone with no ties to the kid or the institution can make the decision.
