I was surprised as anybody that we got into the playoffs last year (and in the BCS game in 2011). I won't say that we deserved it, but I'm glad that the people in charge decided that we did. I think Alabama proved they belonged both times, tho.

I do know, and I see things from multiple views. I see that TV ratings help, I see that Alabama was able to beat the teams they got matched up against so there's an argument they are the best *on neutral fields*. but I also see that they didn't get into these games simply because they are/were the best.

another team could've proved they belonged as well. the only thing 2011 proved was Alabama can beat LSU on a netural field and go 1-1 that year against them but loses at home to LSU.

Not sure why the emphasis "on neutral fields." I would argue that the best team on a neutral field is the best team. You shouldn't need to rely on home field advantage to be better.

Also, the BCS game was in New Orleans. That's barely neutral for La State, if at all.

Like I said... Didn't say we deserved to be in the game, but I'm glad the people who make those decisions thought we did.

    You shut your mouth!

But really no WA isn't that great..decent yeah but our QB makes to many stupid mistakes that cost us. Though in that game Auburn didn't look all that great either. Both teams left a shit ton of points on the field. But it was the first game..we will see how things look at the end of the season.

I know that, but to me it should be more about deserves, not tv ratings....which I feel like helps squeak Bama into those. I mean...how is it that Bama is the only team to "squeak" into championships like that and nobody else is the culprit for pushing others out? oh...thats right...because they don't deserve it...

yes but that one was decided by the fact OSU won a conference championship and the BIG12 didn't have one.

this was when the committee put utmost importance on the conference titles, but then just...neglect that last year? makes sense..

It doesnt matter if they had a 64 team playoff.

Someone else, somewhere else "deserves" that 64th spot more, apparently.

In order for your TV ratings theory to work in 2011, you'd have to believe that the voters in the Coaches and Harris polls, and the computers all cared about tv ratings and wanted to see a rematch. I think that La State would have waxed the floor with OK State that year, but they didn't score a point against Alabama. Maybe that's what the voters saw?

It's also hard to believe that TV ratings would push Alabama in over tOSU last year.

I believe the voters saw a rematch as one of the biggest games they could've put on the stage. What other justification is there to put bama in? they already lost to LSU so the BEST outcome for them is 1-1, which proves nothing?

Alabama also brings more viewers, and more attendees to games (ticket sales) than tOSU, so the theory fits there too.

I'm in no way saying Alabama wasn't better than those teams (since clearly they beat them), but by the way the season fell and the way the committee "says" they vote...Alabama shouldn't have been put in.

Listen, Alabama can't influence the committee's or the BCS computers.

When Alabama "squeaked in", it was because other teams lost later in the season, sometimes to UNRANKED OPPONENTS.

Last year was an outlier. The number one team in the nation for 90% of the season lost one game.

The other options had multiple losses.

Alabama cant help that their viewership is higher, or that the committee might put weight on that.

Alabama also cant help that when they schedule a team 2-5 years in advance, that team should happen to implode or become less relevant.

I vote that Alabama simply keeps an open schedule from here on out, and requires the NCAA to schedule the SEC West opponents, with the UT game and then every other OOC can ONLY be ranked in the top 5.

    That'll shut everyone up.

Other justification: Alabama appeared to be a better team. In a vacuum, 1-1 proves nothing. When 1 of those games is for a shiny crystal ball, it proves a little bit.

Unfortunately, this will make people just as butthurt as they are now. Somehow some way, someone is going to get butthurt over the way schedules/games/rankings/etc are decided.

if it was any team other than Alabama, and Alabama fans were having to sit back and discuss the same way everyone else does, I would bet good money in that situation the Alabama fans would grumble and complain about whoever the team was that was squeaking in. the only thing that shuts folks up is realizing talking to UA fans is like talking to brick walls.

on another note to change the subject and get y'all less butthurt, MSU and Kentucky looks like a good game this weekend.

To La State's credit, they have a better record against Alabama in Tuscaloosa than any other location.

Granted, they don't have a winning record against Alabama anywhere, but they're a .435 in Tuscaloosa.
