So you think it was better when only two teams got a chance to play for a title versus four teams? Uh.

Playoff needs to go to six teams minimum, and none of this conference winner bullshit. It isn’t NCAAMBB, there aren’t enough games to make it count like that.

 

In 2004... they most certainly did.

 

5 big boy conferences decide on who represents them based off a set of hard rules (“their champ”). After that process plays out, the next highest ranked team gets the at large.

If 8 teams then give a spot to the highest ranked non power conf team then 2 at large would be the next highest ranked teams.

Not perfect but way less subjective to the eye test from idiots.

No... I said it did a better job determining top teams.

I'm with you on the 6 team format... but I've always argued they should be conference champions. I mean... if it isnt gonna mean anything then why play them?!

And that's why I dont watch MBB anymore... if you're gonna let everyone in... why have a regular season?

 

Not that my thoughts matter but I have said 6 team playoff 5 power 5 champs and 1 non power 5 team. If you cant win your championship then you dont deserve to be in... I would think the same way if oregon lost the championship game going into it undefeated.

 

It’s an extra game for the conference, and it’d be a sham if some shit team snuck into on the weak side of a division and won one big game. It’s not the same as a 64 team playoff.

Playoff uses nearly the same system with two extra teams to compete for a title. It’s immensely better.

 

No different than 2001 and other years where the selection was questionable, which is why they went away from the BCS.

 

Don’t win your conference and fall out of the top-X spots needed to make the playoff and who cares. Go by the best teams.

 

If Alabama cant beat an SC team that “snuck into the weak side of the division” then they dont deserve it.

I disagree... if they're good enough to win a conference championship... I think they're good enough to play with the big dogs.

NFL example... 2010 Seattle went 7-9 but won a playoff game.

But the best way to prevent chaos is to manage your conference schedule accordingly.

And I think there should only be 3 ooc games... one for a "tune-up game" one for a premier opponent and one for a rival game... al la UF-FSU. ( if you dont have an OOC rival... schedule another premier game)

And I dont think any good team should be playing a Division II or III team. For it to count it should be an FBS opponent.

 

I dont care if they are the best team... if you cant handle who’s on the schedule and lose, then you dont deserve it!

I don’t think you’re understanding. If you’re not on the top teams to make the playoff, you’re out..

 

Top team as in conference champion.... I dont care if Bama or Clemson is ranked 1 or 2 in a 6 team playoff if you cant win the championship you dont deserve to be in!

 

So the conference decides who goes by setting rules in place. An upset in conf title game doesn’t mean they get in. Conference decides if they want to send a lesser opponent. Of course the better team shouldn’t be rewarded for laying down either.
