I think making someone win the conference they are in gives enough reasons to try hard and makes it so a loss in the season doesn’t hurt as bad as it does now. I mean imagine if oregon went 9-0 and then lost to Arizona (somewhat close to a SC loss) the nation would overlook oregon but in a 6 team playoff that loss wouldn’t hurt them as bad as it does now

 

Nobody is saying a 6 isn’t better than a 4. But the advantages aren’t as great as if you just got to an 8. All scenarios will have issues, but a 6 isn’t far from a 4 as far as avoiding issues and an 8 team system eliminates almost all.
I just don’t understand how you can want a 6 but think an 8 is dumb lol

 

I didn’t say it was “dumb”. I just think 8 invites human bias where 6 doesn’t... I can see your side of it... SEC guy wants as many SEC teams in the show.. I get it... I just want everyone to have a chance to “eat from the table”.

I might still be pissed that Nebraska got in the BCS championship game over oregon because of human bias....

 

Speaking for myself... dont think 8 is dumb I just know the arguments against it.

If you do go to 8... cool. I'm just petitioning for having your conference title matter. Heck... it easily serves as round 1 of a playoff scenario. You have basically 10 conferences that matter in FBS. If you do 8 teams 2 are left out and if you let non conference champion teams in you're diluting the meaning of being champs. This is the biggest reason I dont watch NCAAMBB... if you let everyone in the tournament why even have a regular season.

Just think 6 would be an easier sell. Your conference title matters and the nobody conferences get their opportunity to prove "they belong" and wont have to declare themselves made up national champions.

@stronghammer ... your idea has its pros and cons as well. Both our plans would make for a better CFB experience.

I actually made the argument for notre dame and UCF to get in...but ok keep thinking I just want multiple sec teams in.

 

I personally think locking 5 spots in for the 5 champs is dumb. A conference could shit the bed one year and their champ be a pos team that gets in. No system is perfect for sure. We all agree 4 sucks ass lol

 

THAT... we definitely agree on.

And yes... a conference may end up beating each other up... but if you weigh the championship more than strength of schedule you have more motivation to win your conference. Doing away with "divisions" and put the best two from your conference in and play a rotating schedule where all teams play on a regular basis... you'll have a more deserving champion.

 

Your right I guess I mean a conference could “shit the bed” but that doesn’t mean that team that won the championship doesn’t deserve to be there... they won the game that matters!!

 

With that said, 8 teams is the answer. Put in the power 5, plus 3 at large (i.e. the top 8 according to the selection committee, AP or whatev...).

If 9-25 want in, play better FB.

A decent example would be this year...if Clemson wins out as they should but maybe gets throttled in the playoffs. Were they any good or was the acc complete shit? So even as champs did they really deserve to be there? Hypothetical of course...that’s why I think locking 5 spots for the 5 champs is dumb unless you have at least 8.

Why not get rid of this 6 or 8 talk and just do what FCS division II does and do a 20 team playoff.

Ten conference champs and 10 at large bids... If they can make it work why cant the big boys??

 

I’m not against it. Base your bye weeks and amount of games you have to play off rankings.

Yep. Because the playoff already takes away from the bowl game so make them all playoff games.

 

I can go for that plan... just so long as you weigh your conference championship accordingly.

Letting a non conference champion leapfrog a champ because they are the " better team" in a human's eye... that is what ticks me off.

Again... Eliminating "divisions" will even up the conference championship .

 

Conference champs get byes first couple weeks or something. However the schedule lays out.

 

Sorry we only have 40 bowl games ( i just counted)

 

8 teams is an even bracket, therefore only 1 extra game/week for the final 2.

Plus, the elevendybillion (40) bowl schedule is a huge money maker for the colleges.
