uh no, OSU didn't lose the final game they played, they lost very early to Virginia Tech that year.

Alabama losing to Auburn as their final game should've ruled them out of contention, period. Georgia should've been the only SEC team in that year. Ohio State beat 4th ranked wisconsin in their championship game while bama sat on the couch and somehow bama still got the nod, made 0 sense to anyone other than Alabama.

edit: to counter your "Alabama benefitted from Auburn losing, not from losing to Auburn". Had Alabama BEAT Auburn, and then lost in the SECCG to Georgia, Alabama would've been out, just like Auburn was.

 

Yeah I know. I missed an early week and have been picking all upsets in a last-ditch effort to make up ground. I'm losing aformentioned ground.

 

So, now we are adding in how early you lose....not necessarily to the caliber of team you lose to. Did Va Tech even play for the ACC championship that year? Alabama's loss was to the division winner....(still, fuck you Auburn....)

I feel like they did so with Ohio State the year they won the natty, and as well as when Alabama won the natty.

 

then take away any of the wording that says how you determine the 4 best, because if you are going to advertise it then fucking use it. if it's all opinion then just say so and we can hate them for different reasons.

I still think last year putting Alabama in made more sense than the BCS putting Alabama in in 2011. That was a crock of shit and I don't mean just because it was my LSU Tigers that got the bad end of it. I mean because it only determined that on different dates LSU and Alabama go 1-1. A rematch should not be in the running for playoffs.

 

I think specifically WITH the playoffs, they can attempt to schedule potential rematch teams against others to subvert this happening.


Kinda funny, the LSU vs Alabama national championship is what created all the outcry for a playoff. We've already had Alabama vs. UGA. What happens if Alabama and LSU play each other for the natty this year....

 

When you lose, and to who, has been a metric since BCS days.

It doesn’t benefit every team. That’s why a 4 team playoff is better than the BCS. Whoever argued otherwise a few dozen pages back got a good chuckle from me.

 

I have the solution, however.


-Move every conference to 10 conference games.
-Play 2 rotating OOC teams.
-If you are Alabama or Clemson, you must only play top ten teams. Period, because, if you dont then your schedule isn't hard enough.
-then, simply follow the NFL. Since players will eventually get paid legally, might as well utilize the same playoff system.

 

A 4 team is better than BCS... no doubt.

How they determine the 4 is worse than the BCS. It allows for way more human bias when you have a "Selection Committee "

I'd be happy with 4 if they could come up with a non human element to determine the teams.

But... it's the best non human determination of a playoff team.

That's why pro sports have a system in place to determine their champions that doesn't include human interference. When a person is involved you will always have personal bias of some sort. Is it perfect? Well let's ask the 2010 Seahawks. They made the playoffs with a losing record but in the end it worked out.

 

I know you're probably saying that that way... but that makes some sort of sense.

I put in there to play two OOC opponents, and that Alabama would have to play only top 10 match ups.....No violin here, bub.

Is it UMass' fault their oppenents arent very good? No, obviously.


Next thing you'll say is, "Well they should schedule better oppenents."

To which my answer will be, "Why would anyone want to schedule them, everyone will piss and moan that Alabama put UMass on the OOC schedule. Then Alabama's rankings drop because their OOC schedule was weak."

Then you'll say, "But Alabama could schedule another top tier OOC opponent."

And I'll say, "Alabama did schedule top opponents, and they fell off and hired Willy Taggart."

And then you'll say "You always say, 'they were good when we scheduled them....' thats just unacceptable."

Then I'll say, "schedules are made 3-15 years out and teams/schools know the games are coming up and have plenty of time to prepare."
