I'm talking about his specific performance. Tape. Video. Being on the field and wowing crowds and critics.

Burrow did it in 15 games. Other than that, he was an afterthought . 3rd stringer. ..

He did it better in 15 games than Tua ever did in 1. Hence the awards.

    He was a key component.

Yet another sign that the Saban era is in fact ending.

The only reason Joe got awards is because Tua got injured.

    Sure.

I think this is more of a realization that he was never going to be more than the strength and conditioning guy. Also recognizing Saban isnt going to be around much longer, so he went to work with his good friend Kirby at a program desperately pushing to the Bama standard.

Cochran leaving is a big loss, that most people outside of the organization dont really understand. Even most fans dont really understand the leadership and mindset he provided for the entire team.

Saban will really need to hire well to replace him.

Also, I dont understand why Saban wouldn't offer him a freaking Special Teams Coach position at Alabama....

This is what I’ve been wondering. Why wouldn’t Saban offer him a similar position or a huge raise to keep him?

So, most of what I'm seeing (admittedly from typical idiots on the sochule meediaz) and from comments on many different articles is that there was concern about the quality of conditioning and injuries. I can't see how the level of strength and conditioning plays a part in injuries that have increased due to changes in tackling rules...but hey...lets put the blame on the guy who is LITERALLY MAKING THEM STRONGER AND FASTER. LOL. The guy who is forcing them to eat right, sleep right, lift right and work hard to stay healthy.

I think it comes down to, Cochran wants to become a head coach. To do that, he has to first start out as an on field position group coach. Not really sure why Saban wouldnt make him the special teams coach, he was pretty much already an on field position coach assistant for all positions.

Maybe he has slacked off, a bit, due to not wanting to be the strength and conditioning coach and the conversation went something like:

Cochran: Hey Nick, my heart isnt in strength and conditioning anymore, I want to work my way up to be a head coach somewhere...
Saban: Scott, you are an insane motivator that has a wide swath of influence over EVERY player as a S&C coach. You should stay in that position.
Cochran: I dont want to do that anymore, and Kirby said he'd let me be the Special Teams Coach.
Saban: I already have a Special Teams Coach.
    Cochran:
    Saban:
Cochran: I'm gonna go work with Kirby.
Saban: Hey Greg Byrne, I just freed up a bunch of cashflow for a new S&C coach, get me the top 3 candidates in here now.
Saban: Cochran, you can leave, dont chat with anyone on your way out.
Media: Alabama's football team is forfeiting the 2020-2021 season because Scott Cochran is going to Georgia.

Saban is focused on having the right people on the bus, and also in the right seats.

Over time, those people may not be the right ones to have in that specific seat, or maybe even need to be on a different bus.

From my experience and education in building teams or organizational development and leadership, I have to trust Saban that Cochran wanted to change seats and that maybe Cochran being in that seat wasnt good for the Alabama bus. That the seat that Cochran occupied at Alabama was the best seat for all involved.

Over the last 13 years, Saban and Cochran along with many other coaches and "consultants" have been a pretty close study of mine for school. Scott Cochran's influence and reach as the S&C coach is far greater than it would be for a positional coach or a teams coach. HOWEVER, it is quite possible that in 13 years, Scott picked up a whole lot of education about how to run a football program as a head coach. He was Saban's right hand. Unfortunately for Cochran, to attain the goal of HC at any point in time, he has to prove himself as a positions/team coach first.

Again, Scott was highly influential, truly cared about the health, safety and performance of every player, was a fan favorite with a massive presence on the field, even during games. The loss will be difficult to overcome, however if Scott's job and abilities were compromised due to losing heart and passion for that position, then it was time for him to move on anyway. It will be interesting to see who Saban brings in, and also to see how much longer Saban will be there.

Side Note: We also dont know 99% of the conversations that happened. Maybe Scott wanted to be the front-runner to replace Saban at Alabama, and Saban didn't want to support that or was offended by it. Maybe there started to be bad blood.

Either way, Saban is a highly effective leader who has an innate ability to cater or adjust his leadership abilities to the needs of the followers. He is also very good at understanding his weaknesses and hiring to compensate or compliment those weaknesses. From a leadership standpoint, Saban will more and more become the subject of studies in leadership and development by many, many groups, organizations, universities and professors long after he has left the earth. This very well may be a point of contention in the area of missteps or mistakes. Time will tell.

Expect UGA to be a much more physical team this year. Cochran will bring an intensity that has been missing from UGA since before Kirby came and influence will almost be immediate.
