Bama almost came back and beat LSU in 2019 with a hobbled quarterback. Bama's 2020 team would have beaten LSU's 2019 squad, Bama's 2020 squad should be on top. They played an all SEC schedule and dominated in the playoffs. Mac's QB rating was the highest ever recorded, Devonte could not be covered and Najee could not be tackled, three of the top 5 Heisman finalist were those mentioned above. Six 1st round NFL draft picks.

let’s start here 2019 Bama and 2020 Bama were the exact same teams minus a couple “first round nfl draft picks”.

2019 LSU vs Bama, Bama never had the ball with an actual chance or threat to take the lead. Every Bama score was answered swiftly by an LSU score. Bama got the benefit of scoring near the end of both halves, therefore skewing the score.

now 2020. To claim “all sec schedule” as some kind of feat last year is ludicrous. The entire sec was actual trash, opt outs, COVID cases, etc all effected every sec team except Bama (magically right?). The sec was hot garbage and down as a whole. Bama did what they were supposed to and had great talent but they played against a bunch of inferior opponents last year. And I don’t mean Bama was so much better they made everyone inferior, I mean more like a 30 year old man signing up to fight a 4th grader. It’s not a fight to begin with even if the 30 year old man is a fat slob.

so honestly, 2020 Bama could be lower on the list and I’d still agree with the list.

oh and let’s not forget that 2020 Bama returned I believe more players from the 2019 team than any of the other playoff teams they played against so of course they should’ve been better. Nobody had an off-season so returning 90%+ of your team is a huge advantage. Especially when your team somehow has now COVID cases all season…hm…

 

The SEC went 6-2 in bowl games in 2020 and if you count the Bama win against Ohio State it was 7-2. I guess everyone else was cold garbage. If the SEC is so over rated why does everyone want in? Few teams outside the SEC play at SEC level and one is Oklahoma and guess what. That leaves Ohio State maybe, Notre Dame wishful thinking, Texas no, Penn State back in the day, same with Miami, that leaves Clemson. Did I leave anyone out? Don't bring up the girls out on the west coast.

 

Just because they want in doesn’t mean they were good in 2020. If you believe “all sec” is some amazing achievement last year, you’re delirious.

only 4 teams ended the season ranked, so bowl wins don’t say much.

 

The AP has Iowa State 7, Cincinnati 8, C Carolina 22 and Louisiana 23, really? Trying so hard to get Cinderella in the Ball.

Bama has challenges this year with a green QB and rebuilt O-line but the defense is expected to be one of the best in country. Depth at LB is just unreal with 5 star freaks stacked up. Running back depth is another strength, so is the wide out group. If the O-line comes together and the QB matures Bama will repeat. A few if's but not a dream like the Dance Ball hopefuls.

On 2020 Covid, Bama has a NFL level program with nutritionist, doctors, medical staff and large support group few schools can match. Players were tested daily and stayed in closed groups.

 

1) People want in the SEC because of the TV money.
2) Short of ALA and UGA, who else is consistently great in the SEC? UF is great at being overrated like UT and ND, and LSU was calling for Ed O’s head before Burrow showed up. The middle to bottom of that now 16-team conference is very, very boring in multiple sports.
3) Bowl game records mean nothing now with players opting out.

 

SEC level? You don't think Texas can play with Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Miss State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, South Carolina, Tenn, MO, Ark, GA? Texas is a mid level Big 12 team and can play with any of those.

You slam ISU and promote OU and yet ISU beat OU in the regular season last year. Both games were close.

 

To be fair, ISU being relevant for the first time ever has happened within the last few years. I wouldn’t go comparing them with the sustained competitive history of OU.

 

ISU upsets a big team every couple of years then finishes with 4 or 5 loses.

Texas was once a great program. They probably beat half the SEC today. You should be happy if beating Vandy is your goal.

Why is the SEC tv money so high? Maybe because fans appreciate quality football.

SEC schools have one 11 of the last 15 National titles.

Outside the SEC only Clemson and Ohio State are relevant.

Between 2009 and 2012 the Crystal Ball never left the state of Alabama.

 

Or maybe because the majority of the sec fan base doesn’t understand basic spelling or grammar, so they watch football to feel like they have accomplished something in life.

That's somewhat true but those people are happy in their lives and that's really all that matters in life.

 

I'm just rebutting a comment that ISU is not deserving of the high ranking. If they split with OU last year and won the regular season title and OU is number 2 then....

 

This is what I love about college football. Everybody is right and everybody is wrong.

The SEC is the most successful conference in the past decade-plus, no question. That doesn't mean it's the whole conference, just the top. It also doesn't mean that "everyone outside of the SEC other than Ohio State and Clemson is irrelevant." That sort of mentality is short-sighted and ignorant. Clemson wasn't even a blip on the map a decade ago and now look at them.

TX is a storied program that hasn't figured it out in the last 10 years but they will eventually, they have the money and recruits and brand power. Tom Herman was a clown, they have a coach now who could do some things I think. Don't sleep on TX, OU fans know all too well.

There are other programs that have great potential and are just missing a thing or two to be in the discussion. IMHO.

Teams in the west or North of the Mason/Dixon have won 3... count them... 3 this Millennium.

 

I don't see anyone disputing that Auburn, Alabama and Clemson have ruled college football for ten years.

But when you talk about "SEC level" play, you can't just pretend that Kentucky and Vanderbilt are not part of the league.
