Two weeks into the season and a head coach is fired. USC parted ways with their head coach Clay Helton today.

He coached here at WKU for one year. Rumor was he was offered $500,000 and a cheerleader to be named later but left after no cheerleader materialized.

 

No concrete proof, but she was supposedly riding on the back of the motorcycle when it crashed and didn't receive a scratch. Popular theory is the fiancé intercepted them riding home from the lake. He beat the crap out of Bobby and left them both to walk home.

it’s too bad.. he’s such a good guy. Louisville turns out the best coaches.

 

It’s not about competition necessarily for the University. Money plays a part but the real reason Texas wants to join the SEC is for the upcoming shift away from the NCAA. They want a seat at the table of the decision makers.

I don't get the direction this is all going. If the goal is to create a "semi pro" league of the PAC, B10, ACC, and SEC it will alienate huge portions of the country from caring about college football.

Alumni of other Texas colleges are not going to suddenly become fans of Texas A&M and UT when their teams are playing in the C league. Same for CA with USC an UCLA. I mean, what other semi pro leagues have substantial television markets?

March madness and other TV high rating events would also die, imo.

I've not heard anyone make that claim. What would be the basis?

 

The entire “alliance” was conflated with academics, and that’s why the B10 and ACC claim to have passed on schools (for now). It’s the absolute dumbest argument to make, ever. Nobody gives a shit about academics when they’re turning on the TV to watch a game.

 

So Harvard and Yale don't meet their standards? How about the Academies? Ludicrous.

I have been reading in the local paper speculation that the SEC will buy UT and OU out of their B12 obligations. There is concern about the optics if UT or OU were to lose to Cinn, BYU or Houston over the next two years.

 

Academic requirements are also about money. It’s all about grants and research money. Texas will be the #2 acadmedic school in the SEC behind Vandy and ahead or Florida.

These conference alignments aren’t just about football.
