Just a random guy here, that honestly doesn't keep up enough to matter, but I'd say I think you're both on to something. Alabama IS top 4 material (or at least has been the last few seasons). Alabama SHOULDN'T be top 1 or 2 though (but they will be)

As stated previously, your perception is questionable at best.

Rankings don't matter until later in the season, when the committee re-ranks everyone the way they want.

You can put App State at number one from now until then.....Wont matter.

 

well this blows. I dont see why Georgia and Oklahoma couldnt try to make next years game a neutral site and just cancel the second game. Now Georgia fills that opening with Ball State.

It does matter. Because your resume matters. If you beat “a #1 team” it means more than if you beat an unranked team. Preseason rankings are always horribly inaccurate, but they matter.

 

This doesn’t seem like a hard concept to understand, but this is the NCAA Football thread.

 

It always seems to be bammers that think the rankings don’t matter. One of the few schools that benefit so greatly from historical presence and preseason rankings of course.

 

I honestly don’t think there should be rankings until after week 5 or 6. It’s all fodder for the talking heads and “experts” on TV in preseason. I understand it’s not going to change, It’s just wishful thinking. I’m sure your big names will still find their ways to the top. Maybe not ND this season, but, I digress.

This is what I was saying. With the committee, those are the rankings that matter.

"4 best teams".

 

If you beat a number 1, then they were over-rated as the number 1, by most versions of logic currently being utilized by many here.

So, which is it? Hahaha.

 

So why would Georgia not be #1 to start the season?

the only preseason rankings that should exist, are the rankings the previous season finished at.
